Pete has been playing that Red Strat through the Fender Vibro-Kings for quite a while now.
And he still sounds great!
The halftime show was awesome.
Re: Half-Time Who
I thought the performance was okay. It wasn't lip-synced, so let's be thankful for that! Pete should have tucked in his shirt, though. Not very flattering to see a man's flesh gut over his belt buckle.
According to Colin (maybe he can chime in here?) or someone, Pete uses Rics for studio use only. I knew he was going to use the Clapton Strats through Vibro-Kings. The Vibro King is one cool amp, I'd use it, too, if I had the frequent gigging or the money.

AFAIK, he doesn't use Rics at all, even in the studio.JakeK wrote:

It doesn't sound like he does either.
Re: Half-Time Who
The show was not lip-synched but, it was live vocals over recorded music.
I think the show stunk, as do all the half time Super Bowl shows.

Re: Half-Time Who
Stunk is kind. I've loved me some Who back in the day, but that was just horrid. Let's face it, music isn't "good for players in their 60s" anymore than it's "good for players in their teens." It's either good or it isn't, and that wasn't.
I've got a gig in Manhattan tomorrow night, and, at 46, if anyone comes up to me and says "that's great for someone approaching 50," I'll retire on the spot.

Can we have everything louder than everything else?
Re: Half-Time Who
John, where in Manhattan are you going to be?
Personally, I think that the Who should bill themselves as Daltrey/Townshend playing the best of the Who. They are performing Quadrophenia in it's entirety later this year.My son is curious as to who is going to sing "Bell Boy". Even with that said, Keith's drumming/personality along with Entwistle's unique stylings are much of what made the group special.
PS though..part of my disclaimer to my post above...I also didn't enjoy U2, Springsteen or McCartney at the Super Bowl either. Guess I'm a tough audience
PPS - on the other side of the coin John, my son is 12 and when we perform, if someone say he's good for 12, I dismiss the comment as patronizing.

Marc, if you go see John play, are you going to say: "that's great for someone approaching 50"?

We're at the R Bar on Bowery at 9 PM. I'm leaving in just a bit as it's about 4.5 hours from here, barring traffic. Come on down.

Unfortunately, I missed John's band...but my son does make that comment to me at timesjps wrote:Marc, if you go see John play, are you going to say: "that's great for someone approaching 50"?

I'm going to **** on the parade here...
I thought they looked bad, sounded worse, and simply need to hang it up.
When I saw them in the 70's, they were, along with Queen, the best live act in the world.
Time can be cruel sometimes...

Re: Half-Time Who
I thought they started rough, and I felt it was embarrassing. But then I felt they hit their stride and clicked. It didn't make me grimace the whole way through, unlike some TV appearances I've seen of aging musicians in the past couple of years (BB King, Chuck Berry).
Re: Half-Time Who
Well, I must say my raves will be a bit less enthusiastic if, indeed, the music track was pre-recorded. I'm not sure what people expect regarding the age thing. They are 60 and ain't gonna look or act like kids. But I did expect musicians with anywhere from 20-50 years of playing under their belts to do a short live set.

Re: Half-Time Who
Its funny, actually hilarious to read the "critiques" of a performance by musicians who even at the twilight of their careers have so much more to give than a lot of their naysayers.
