Auto Decoder wrong
Hey all, new member here. I registered my 1957 850 Combo on the registration page and the auto decoder gave it a Jan. 1970 mfg. date.I tried to enter 1957 and it was rejected. I was 5 years old when I went with my dad to buy this guitar in 1957. What gives? The serial number is 85C7125.
Re: Auto Decoder wrong
Check the Rickenbacker guitar website, and look under the Service tab for serial number decoder. Yours comes up made in 1957.

Re: Auto Decoder wrong
Stan, you are correct. Comes up 1957.
Ron, I have one pic posted. But you'll have to scroll thru to the year 1970 even though it's wrong. I'll post more when I get them downloaded from my camera.
Thanks for the replies. Wonder how I go about getting this corrected?

Re: Auto Decoder wrong
Well, now I can't even find it. I guess every time you try to edit or change your registration info, they remove it and it takes awhile for it to reappear.
Re: Auto Decoder wrong
Bill, I just searched for your Combo by serial number and found it. You should be able to do the same. The correct date is now showing.
For the benefit of our members, I have taken the liberty of posting here a photo of your really, really nice looking 850 Combo.

Re: Auto Decoder wrong
Thanks Ron. I have just been there and if you look now you will see it is listed as 1957-00. These early serials are hand-coded at present and we will be adjusting the date code to do some of these automatically in the future. Thanks for your comments and your patience William and Welcome.

Re: Auto Decoder wrong
Thanks all for your help. It was my dad's guitar and my mother gave it to me when he died in 1976. He only played it in church on Sundays (really)!
At some point the toaster pickup toasted itself and the pickup is now on it's way to Seymour Duncan for repair.
Thanks again!
