Show me some beat-up Ricks
Am I the only one who thinks Rickenbackers look really good with significant wear? I'm not talking about abuse, but honest wear and lots of it. Anybody got any pictures of some well-loved Rickenbackers?
Re: Show me some beat-up Ricks
I think they look OK beat up . . . but I would be sad to see a 'relic' fad with Rics . . . they seem sorta above that whole thang
Re: Show me some beat-up Ricks
I think any guitar looks better with real use. Not that relic BS. I recently bought a white 360 partly because I wanted a 360, partly because it was a good deal, and partly because it looks really cool with yellowed and cracked finish and a bit of finish rubbed off in just the right way.
On the other hand, I understand why others like pristine examples and I respect that. I won't buy a pristine older guitar because I know that the way I play I will beat the **** out of it.

Here's one of our recently discussed beat up Ricks, discussed on this thread: viewtopic.php?f=22&t=394042

Yes. Perfect. This is how older guitars should look - and this is not how a brand new guitar should look. File me under anti-relic.libratune wrote:Here's one of our recently discussed beat up Ricks, discussed on this thread: viewtopic.php?f=22&t=394042

Count me anti-relic, too.
But then, you knew that already...

Here's my '64 Rose Morris 1998:
In my opinion------it has the perfect amount of wear around the edges. Checked/crazed finish, worn sides, fits like a glove. I won't pay more for this "feature," but i'd pick it over a mint example any day (if they were the same price).
You collectors can keep the minty examples, I like em like a well-worn and comfortable! (and they usually play better like this as well...)

Here are a few of the wear patterns on my 1967 RM3261.

Here's a couple of mid-'60s Ricks that show honest playing wear:
And what is it with these 1998s (or, um, 345Ss)? Some models get all the play:

This 4000 has the coolest wear ever:

Re: Show me some beat-up Ricks
I've always felt an old guitar with no wear is a sad thing. Basically says no one loved it. And an unloved guitar is a terrible awful thing.
