He's sending it two-day, and I'll give an update when I get it!

Good deal, Collin. I suspect we all get a little antsy whether it be buyer or seller when their is a delay in communications. I'm one of the worst about it. I think everything should have happened yesterday.

Yep, most definitely.

I was buying stuck on Ebay even 10 years ago, back when it was the total "wild west," and was burned on a couple of occasions....I guess my red flag warnings went up too quickly.

Plus, being younger , iphone toting etc....I forget that not everyone is as rapid in communication as myself.

Yeah, I understand the paranoia part. I won a new Rick yesterday, sent a note to the seller requesting an invoice and shipping info.... and...... no response.
Until just a few minutes ago. :D

I suppose I was just a little bit more worried after reading this thread... but I feel better now that he's contacted me...

Oh, and I'm older... but I've been using the internet for "instant" communications since 1978... yeah, before Al Gore inverted it, even...

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

I only purchase BIN items on ebay anymore, but I rarely go there these days. There is no sport to their auctioning system, just whoever has the fastest sniping program, and I refuse to do business like that. To me, the whole deal really misses the point, but hey, I've already proved my opinion unpopular here, so I'll leave it at that.

beatlefreak wrote:Gil, you should have filed a dispute with Ebay. The seller entered into a contract with them when he listed the item.
Sorry, I missed your reply.
The seller did an honest mistake, it could happen, I might have been able to force it out of him (legally) but I don't want any of my instruments to get to me in that manner.
So long and thanks for all the fish!

Well, that works out---I only sell BIN items these days!

I do agree though, I'll buy via non-BIN...but as for selling....let's take the monkey business out of the whole "auction" aspect of Ebay, just list it for what you want, and see if there are buyers at that price. Seems to work for buyer and seller both...

Here ya go!

1959 Gibson ES-335 TD. It was renecked in the late 60s, but plays and sounds unbelievable (had Zebra PAF's in both positions). Cool flamey curled maple top too.

Then... (because these things always seem to come in pairs), picked up a really beat up 1963 Gibson ES-335 TDC, with factory bigsby. It has a strange repair on the lower horn that i'll need to get properly repaired, but the guitar is all original and sounds great. I bought the guitar from Guitar Center, believe-it-or-not......

Overall, it's been a mega-busy guitar week. :)

Congrats Collin. I'd say it definitely was worth pursuing. Glad it worked out.

As a note: I had purchased an inexpensive item this past December on eBay with someone on the other side of the state that had good feedback (99% with 150+) and watched as over the next two weeks their feedback drop to horrible percentage and go into the negatives on numbers of feedback.

I'm just glad it was only something that was worth less than the tank of gas it would have taken me to drive across the state and find out what the deal was.

Collin,

Congrats! Thanks for sharing the pics. That '59 is a beauty! Love the weatherchecked finish.

The '63 looks pretty cool, too. Kind of took a bullet in the treble horn -- home-made master volume, perhaps?

I got to play the '59 today (thanks again Collin :D ). It was unbelievable! It is easily the nicest and best playing 335 I've ever had the opportunity to get my hands on. You got a good one there.

Thanks guys.....I may have just cured my ES-335 addiction in one fell swoop.

Thanks Ron--it may have been. I'm going to have that part stripped down and given the proper repair it deserves. I will check out what its hiding at that point.

It's remarkable how different these two ES's sound and feel, given that they were made only four years apart. Both are excellent....just different.
