Rickenbacker Electric 12 Book - Has Anyone Seen It?

Post by stringsncords »

I have had this new book, RICKENBACKER ELECTRIC 12 by Tony Bacon, on order for 10 months at Amazon.com.
I keep getting notices that push the delivery date out further - the latest is now March 22nd. I can't understand why Amazon would advertise that this book is for sale (for almost a year) and not have a supply to ship.

Does the backlog now extend to BOOKS?

Seriously, has anyone seen it? I posted a message ot the corporate forum, with no response.

Thanks, Bob

I think it is close Bob. IIRC Graham said that he received an advance copy. Of course my memory might be flawed................but I do seem to recall reading that somewhere. Maybe on FB?

I think a few were released earlier but I haven't seen one. When I looked it up on the Barnes and Noble site I thought it strange to see it listed as a 2nd edition printing coming out next month. Kind of makes me wonder if the first editions were pulled and changes were made, thus delaying the full release.

Just to be clear, the new book is not an official product of R.I.C., so your guess is as good as ours.

That's been happening lately. Last year, I read Robb Lawrence's Les Paul bio, "The Early Years of the Les Paul Legacy", thoroughly enjoyed it, and set out to find Volume 2, "The Modern Legacy of Les Paul", which got pushed back at least twice, the last time so Les's passing could be included. Good books, both of them. I'm looking forward to reading the Rick 12-string book--I hope it won't be delayed too much longer!

I've had one on order from Amazon.com since late last Summer, and it's been somewhat frustrating receiving their monthly updates changing the anticipated ship date. Seems like it's been changed at least 6 or 7 times. Amazon has now moved the release date to March 22nd, 2010 as the publisher Hal Leonard has revised their's to March 15th. I hope it's a worthwhile read as I've never been that impressed with the Tony Bacon series of books; they all seem very general in scope without much "new" information.
I guess Nacho Bano's " Blackguard", Yasuhiko Iwanade's "Beauty of the Burst" and Robb Lawrence's 2 volume "Les Paul Legacy" have raised the bar on brand specific guitar reference books.

It might be that Barnes & Noble has it listed as a second edition because of Tony Bacon's previous Rickenbacker book. Here's a direct link to the publisher'Hal Leonard's announcement about the forthcoming book.

Not in the normal sense. The definition of a first edition book is the first run of a book in the same typeface or setting. If someone is selling true first editions of a book, they will normally state that it is a first edition, first printing. This means that it is the first printing run of the book, using the same typeface. A second print run of a book, even if it uses the same typeface, is not usually considered a first edition.

Hey Rob!

The Hal Leonard date is encouraging. Thanks for the response - it's very frustrating to receive the Amazon updates, especially since the book has been advertised on their website for a year, and apparently none have shipped yet!

I'd bet that Tony Bacon is even more frustrated than we are, though.

Yeah I understand what a First Edition is. Like Barnes & Noble doesn't make mistakes that is what I was attempting to convey. Maybe they did release a First Edition, but with all the Rickenbacker info available on sites like this forum, someone would have shared info on it by now. I beleive the owner of Route 66 Guitars might know about it, as he's involved in the proofing.

I wasn't attempting to insult you. It's not like we're incapable of making mistakes either. As I stated clearly in my very first post on this thread, it could be the 1st Edition was 'pulled' due to some errors either in the printing or the context, resulting in a 2nd Edition, which is what I was trying to convey.

Thanks for clearing that up, Graham. I figured a 1st Edition was out there somewhere...just not necessarily over here.
