Is that a clear pickguard?
Because I told you before- oh, you can't do that.

IIRC it is a back-mirrored one.Bighouse wrote:Is that a clear pickguard?

Yup, mirrored with beveled edges. When DR told me they only did beveled edges (I didn't know about Pickguardian at the time) I was kinda bummed. But once I saw it, I really like the way it looks.

Tom, great shot! Nice mood!
Re: Post of picture of you PLAYING your ric
Here's that bass again. I know it's heresy, but the Hipshot bridge and G&L pickup make for a great axe.
There were 9 guitar players, 6 playing most of the time...you gotta feel something for me.

The thread(s) on it have been long archived. John Hall did not take me up on my offer to drop by with it. He decided that it was made from some parts stolen from the factory...possibly tooling, too. Genuine truss rod. It's a 21 fret, has checkerboard binding and a bound headstock. The only one on record with a skunk stripe that wide belongs to Chris Brubeck. The jackplate belongs to a fire-glo fretless. The TRC and neck pickup are newer than the jackplate. There's no way on earth the wood was ever stained. The Titans were shot, so I replaced them with Hipshot Ultralites...no neck dive.BAD RONBO, KiLLeR DWaRfS wrote:james...what make is that bass ? bound dot neck, bound walnut headwings, large skunk stripe ? custom made ?

can you get me some links to the achives ? he could be right...if there is no documentation and there are parts here and there, anything is possible.
Re: Post of picture of you PLAYING your ric
You'd have to talk with Peter McCormack about that. I think it was different BBS software then...6 to 8 years ago.
I know a guy who has toured with The Outlaws, Marshall Tucker, and others. Here are his comments. "I am a dinosaur...there is only one bass, "The Fender Electric Bass" whether it be Jazz or Precision, they are the foundation...I do like your Rickenbacker 4001 James. I make an exception for what you did [G&L] because it kicks tremendous ***. It felt like having the "Red Button" in the Presidents bunker in my hands. How do you spell "THUD" That bass is priceless."
I should add that I implemented the full G&L wiring, so it has series humbucking, parallel humbucking, and single coil on one of the tone knobs.

Mannn... that Hipshot A-style bridge looks so good on there. The G&L pickup isn't half-bad either. I'm sure the best thing about it for you is that it's totally unique: truly YOUR bass. Awesome.

Footage from last night at The Frazer Theatre, Knaresborough, supporting The Quireboys.
We played with a guitarist missing, due to car breakdown.

Another one. The slow version of Don't believe a word.
The acoustic bass I was 'supposed' to be using didn't get a look in.
