Vampire Weekend on SNL

Post by dean712 »

FYI - the lead singer plays a melody part on the Ric near the end of the song. Was on SNL, the second song they played, this past weekend. Clearly not Peter Buck or anything, but a pop song Ric sighting...

LOVE Vampire Weekend.

Not entirely hot on the new album, but the last one was phenomenal, and the fact that he now uses a Ric is just a huge bonus. :)

I enjoyed both of their songs on Saturday Night Live, although that's not my usual kind of music. Actually, I also thought the host was one of the funniest I've seen in a long time too, so it was a really good SNL episode.

+1. Zach Galifianakis was pretty good. He kind of has that John Belushi thing going on.

Yeah, I didn't notice until you said it, but I totally see that. Sort of the "weird, blunt big-guy" thing. He's good at it!

They're one of the few bands both my wife and I love.

I've been slow to embrace these guys, but I have to say, that performance was pretty tasty. :)

I just watched this last night (thanks, Tivo!). Indeed, it was really funny.

Vampire Weekend were less annoying than I'd feared (they've rec'd so much hype in these parts).

I was slightly annoyed that he switched guitars (from Epiphone Sheraton to 360) for essentially playing just a few notes and my old cranky punker inner monologue started up. He barely touched it, honestly, although maybe I could learn something from that restraint.

When I saw this thread title, I thought at first that it was a post by Mitch B all excited about a marathon of vampire movies on one of the cable networks...

+1. Their first album was more enjoyable than the second, but they have a very cool, kinda breezy sound. There are many days when I'll come home to hear them playing.

I don't mind their music, but there's something about their singer that makes me want to smack the preppy smirk off his face.

Have to agree.
I'm not a fan of all these little guitar bands full of posh boys.
There's quite a few of these types around at the moment that could do with a bit of a slap.

Probably not on youtube (or anywhere else yet) but Vampire Weekend was on The Colbert Report tonight.

I don't watch SNL much anymore so I guess I missed them a couple of months ago.

When I was a pre-adolescent and then adolescent growing up in the mid-90s I used to love SNL for its live music--I picked up on a lot of my favorites there, because I didn't have MTV and really didn't listen to lots of radio. (Tori Amos and Bjork are probably the most vividly memorable for me, to this day.) But I totally quit SNL a few years ago when I decided they had not only stopped booking good music, but had also totally forgotten what "funny" is. But they seem to have come back in the last couple of years, and the music is at least hit-or-miss nowadays. I can't say I love Vampire Weekend but I did watch them with interest.

More interesting: Chris Baio playing a JetGlo Rick bass; I'll leave it to the experts to divine the model.
