Where to buy a new Gibson Les Paul guitar

Post by paul_yan »

Hello all,

I'm helping a friend get a Gibson Les Paul. An LP Standard, Standard Plus, Traditional, Taditional Plus, Custom, Supreme, or might even be a 1959/60 reissue.

I know that Sweetwater has a pretty impressive collection of Gibson LP's in stock. However, can anybody recommend a store (preferably with a website) that have both good stocks and prices?

Thanks in advance! :D

Hey Paul,

Not that you mentioned it, but I know where a DEAD STOCK 1956 LP in BLACK is!

Seller asking a mere 38K!

Good luck on the hunt!

I'd suggest the usual suspects. Sam Ash or Musicians Fiend! Quote Sam Ash your lowest price, and they will usually beat it.

You may want to check out Wildwood. They will be meet or beat any big box retailer and you will be dealing with a great bunch of folks, not someone in a "call center".

Lot of money, but that's actually a stellar deal if really is that mint (especially if it truly is deadstock with shipping box, hang tags etc...).

I've purchased 5 guitars from Wildwood. Highly recommended.

I like AMS who have treated me very well in several dealings.
Their site has several Lesters listed.

If I remember correctly, it was purchased from the original owner, with the original receipt and case. It's got a fair amount of bumps and dings, but is all original. I hate to say this, but it just looked like an old guitar to me!

+1 on http://davesguitar.com in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Laun Braithwaite is top shelf and among the best peeps in general I have come to know. Although I haven't purchased any Gibsons from DGS, I have scored these five guitars from Laun:

Rickenbacker 330/6 MG
G&L ASAT Special Semi-Hollow (with Bigsby vibrato)
G&L ASAT Comanche (with all sorts of upgrades)
Gretsch G6128 TSP Duo Jet
Gretsch G6120 TM Chet Atkins

If you want to experience knowledge, courtesy, service, and professionalism all in one sitting, give Laun a buzz @ 608-785-7704. Tell him Shredder, the middle-school teacher in Los Angeles, recommended him to you. Enjoy your journey of discovery. Keep on keepin' on.....Goofyfoot.
Play on, pick often, jam with any Rickenbacker, and prosper.

Well, guess what, Dave doesn't have a Les Paul model that my friend likes. So the hunt goes on...

However, I snatched a 4003 MID from Dave a couple of days ago, heheh!

Thanks for all your recommendations, gentlemen! :D

Try the Guitar Gallery in Canonsburg PA (20 miles south of Pittsburgh). Good store, good prices, good people!
