All things 620: what exactly makes a 620/6 special?

I'm obsessed with the my new 620/6 that I'm going to college near NYC this weekend. In lieu of holding this glorious instrument in my own hands, can any of you tell me what I have to look forward to, esp. things particular -- if they exist -- to the 620/6? Besides the obvious, does anything make it stand out among other guitars? How is it different from other Ricks? If there were a whole web forum based on nothing but the experiences of owning or wanting a 620/6, what would the big topics of discussion be?

I realize that the 620/6 probably has much more in common with other Ricks than not, but if pressed hard to the point of real weirdness, what would you say makes it special?

When I get this baby home, I'm thinking this feeling will fade. But for now, I'm like an anxious parent-to-be dying of curiosity.

I find the body shape super comfy, and I like the solidbody sustain and bite. It's definitely another animal from the semi-hollow models as far as those two points that I mentioned.

What year and color are you getting?

It's an 08 or 07 (I think) in MB.

Cool! That's an unusual color. Sounds yummy! You'll have to put up some pictures for us when you can manage it.

I have one in white with black trim and hardware. It's a great little ax but it's seen better days and needs a makeover. The hi-gains sound great, though.

Bill is your 620 the one in your avatar? if it is its a MID/Midnight blue If its a MB/Montebrown.Id doubt its a MB(havent seen to many of these on a 620 come to think of it) and more like a MID.Nice 620 BTW MID is my favorite colour for a 620.On the output jack-plate there will be serial number that you can check on the RIC website http://www.rickenbacker.com/service_serials.asp

damn, that sounds great. I guess mine will have the newer, apparently less-hot (as in gain) version of the high-gain PU.

One thing that sets the 620 apart is that it has a 21-fret neck (the 330 and 360 have 24-fret necks). To me, the 620 feels very comfortable.

Our friends at POTR received a new lefty 620 JG a couple of weeks. It wasn't spoken for and I came very close to buying it. However, I passed on it because (a) ultimately I want a 660/6 and (b) I'm in the middle of some major home renovations. Of course now it's not listed on their site and I'm wondering what might have been.

I had this idea before today that I would just make a few recordings with this new 620 and then sell it, perhaps even making a few shekels on the sale. Well, that was before I actually got it today. I don't see how I can ever let this baby go.

It is in exquisitely perfect condition, and it plays like a dream. Have you ever felt like you had a guitar in your hands and you just KNEW it was the one you'd been looking for all your life?

Well, I'm having that feeling. I honestly hope the feeling just fades. Meanwhile, I'm selling my Fender ...

They are lovely guitars... My first RIC was a 1982 620, which had a much smaller headstock then they do now... I still miss it very much although I have acquired some others since...

Next you will want a 12 string! The 620 12 is a great guitar as well... Here's a quick picture of mine from 1980...
