looks like chris was wearing a circumcision tool around his neck in boyle's pic ??? in the first pic from '77 on talkbass forum, note the gap at the mute part of the bridge due to it being pulled back for intonation with roundwounds. and in the 5th pic, is squire using a rick with binding that he's holding up ? then the '84 pic showing the fender string trees to hold the strings down as the headstock was leaning forward too much.

Seems more Egyptian than circumcision to me.... although I don't really remember mine personally....
