Brand-New 360 AFG

Post by harborcoat26 »

My first real guitar was a mapleglo 360 with black hardware back in 1987. When my brother picked up his Pete Townshend in a couple years later I thought that it was the nicest paint job I had ever seen! (You have to see it in person, the promo poster is horrible) So I was thrilled to see that Rickenbacker was doing the Amber Fireglo in '06, but unfortunately I couldn't afford it at the time. To me the AFG looks just as nice as the PT, if not it's real close. Well an opportunity just opened up for me to purchase a brand-new one at a very reasonable price! It should be here Thursday-ish. I'll post some pictures and add it to the registry. I can't wait!!!

Here's something to look at in the meantime:

BTW - of course that is NOT a Roger McGuinn model on the right, but it is signed by the man himself!

Nice picture Brian and congratulations on the 360 AFG. I have an AFG 660 that I absolutely love the color on.

Does your brother still have the PT model? Those are pretty rare!

Thanks!

660 in AFG with checkered binding and gold - sweet!

Yes, he bought it new when it first came out and still has it! And that's his amp too.

Congrats on your AFG, Brian. Hope to see the pics.

(P.S. It's also always good to see another Texan on the forum. There aren't enough of us on here :D )

Status: Out for delivery!

UPS loaded it up at 5:30 A.M. and it's on the way! Unfortunately the current temp is 36 degrees. By the time it gets to my door the temp should be about 60 degrees - is it okay to open it right away?

My guitar arrived 4:00 yesterday and the AFG paint is amazing!!! And these pickups are exactly what I am looking for (my '87 360 is too bright for me), they're perfect!

On the downside - the wood is very grainy and distracting, which I can live with,

but the binding and fret inlays are way too yellow/gold for me!
Image

I purchased this one over the internet and the color is much bolder than the pictures.
I'm used to the binding being the same color as the pickguard and trussrod cover.

I thought about changing the pickguard and trussrod cover to vintage gold to camouflage it, but I think it would make the binding stand out even more, and the current white adds a nice contrast.

Since I already have a 360 that I can easily change the pickups on, the point of getting this guitar was because it's so beautiful! But the yellow binding is not working for me so I'm not sure what I'm going to do! Too bad it can't be removed, or can it? Any ideas?

Here's a photo of the only new AFG I have ever seen in person. I don't remember seeing any yellow binding, everything appears very white!

Brian the last pic of the 360(Above) IMO aint AFG its just a FG.The AFGs with FWIs are very ambered when contrasted to a white TRC.I personally like the FWIs ambered on your 360 Id definitely go for gold guards with matching TRC.Congrats on your guitar its a cracker.
