RIP Peter Graves
Re: RIP Peter Graves
Cool guy and a great body of work! The last Mission... he will be missed.
Re: RIP Peter Graves
True, but you've gotta admit, it was entertaining...wayang wrote:A few minor differences between Hollywood and reality: Mr. Phelps and his crew were never depicted administering physical torture to anyone, much less some completely innocent farmer whose neighbor ratted him out for the reward money and then stole his property while he was being 'extremely renditioned'. They likewise were never shown getting the wrong address and blowing up some third-party nation's embassy. None of them was ever 'outed' by a sitting Vice President. Their mysterious 'bosses' were never linked to a peculiar religion centered in a sparsely populated Western state. They never deposited a ragtag force onto a Carribean beach and left them to be annihilated. They were not allowed to 'moonlight' as corporate spies for Investment Banks or chocolate manufacturers. I could go on, but one gets the idea...just like Gomer never had to drag his bag down to the airstrip to get on the C130...
No, if it's reality one savors, I'm afraid 'Get Smart' is about the closest Hollywood ever came...
R.I.P. Mr. Graves...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
Re: RIP Peter Graves
You bet, CJ, I'll admit that in a heartbeat. Very entertaining: great writing, directing, acting, filming and scoring. And great bongo playing, too.
I didn't get where I am today by being on time...

Yep, he was a cool one. From Stalag to Fury to Mission to Airplane and beyond. Married 60 years to the same woman!
Re: RIP Peter Graves
One of my favorites here as well. I got to see most of the Mission: Impossible reruns on FX when I was in high school. I'd already seen Stalag 17 and Airplane thanks to my dad, who was looking out for my movie viewing. A great actor with one of the really distinct voices that will be missed.
