How about the tailpiece, it should be flush to the edge of the body, shouldn't it? My Nov '74 certainly is. I don't know when the relative position changed but my '02 has it's tailpiece aibout a 1/4 inch inboard.

My MG (which I purchased new in August or September of '73) has those fret markers, but a gap-tooth tailpiece and aluminum mounting for the bridge pickup.

I had a '73 with inlays like that, and I don't think any of the 3x'73s I've had has had an aluminium baseplate for the bridge pickup. Or gap-toothed bridge for that matter. I think '73 was a bit of a weird period for Ricks.

Having said that, the wings look a bit fat for '73.

Last week, a SoCal forum member came by my place with an April '73 4001 Jetglo that he recently found. It has all of the goodies, except the full width inlays were not the sparkly ones. It even has the screw top pole piece bridge hi gain. It's in very nice condition. I wish he'd come in here and post some pictures. Please!

Last week, a SoCal forum member came by my place with an April '73 4001 Jetglo that he recently found. It has all of the goodies, except the full width inlays were not the sparkly ones. It even has the screw top pole piece bridge hi gain. It's in very nice condition. I wish he'd come in here and post some pictures. Please!

I've never had one of my own '70's hi gain bridge pickups with the screw top polepieces. Maybe someone else that has one knows.

the thread bass is more meaty than yours, jeff. my buddy's jetglo NG '74 has an aluminum mounting plate for the rear hi gain and an original short pole toaster with grovers. less meaty wings than the thread bass, but larger than my MD deluxe and MJ geddy i used to have.

It WAS Joey, but the neck was H U G E which really surprised me for a 73.

As the RIC gods had it, I flipped it to purchase my 71 BG.

NOT as clean as the 73 was, but a MUCH NICER NECK!

Hi Bass Guys, My name's Dan, I'm a guitar player and this is my first time in the Bass room!

I just bought my first Ric Bass and I'm all excited about it. I took it over to Joey's and he set it up and gave me some of the history on it's features. I will be taking it to the next So Cal mini jam where I will attempt to play a song or two on it with the group (at which point I will hastily retreat back to the guitar where I am much more comfortable).

It's an April '73 model with checkered binding and it has FWI (but not crushed pearl).
