The Prodigal

Post by bassduke49 »

I had a pleasant day today. Almost two years ago, I had purchased a 2007 4003MG with a Toaster and Pickguardian treble pickup surround (shielded inside with copper tape) from a local player who had to liquidate some of his equipment due to financial straights. I believe he posted here on the availability, and I drove down to Milwaukee for the purchase. The bass was (and still is) in mint condition, and he really didn't want to give it up, but had to. He wanted a fair price for it, so I didn't haggle. The MG came home with me, and to one band practice session, but otherwise rested in the Rickenbacker National Forest.

Just yesterday, I contemplated giving this fellow a call to see how he was doing and if he was in a position to buy the bass back. I didn't call, but early this morning, my phone rang, and it was him, wondering if I still had the bass and if I would be willing to sell it back to him! How's that for cosmic timing?! He had come into some money and was living more comfortably. So I sold the bass back to him for the same amount I paid him. It amounted to a no-interest loan to him while I safely kept the collateral. I invited him up to check out the Forest, and he really dug it. Loved the 4004s, the 5-string conversion Cii, the V63s, and the Shadow. But he was just giddy holding his beloved MG and taking it back home with him. Happy man.

Sorry Tony, the feigned profanity that you saw somewhere in the thread has now been removed, but thanks for the laugh. I love that scene.

Paul, you give hope to the human race for your flagrant decency. Well done and well posted. We should all bring so much happiness to the rest of us when we can.

That's one I've never read, and a great line.

The world needs a lot more people like you, Paul.

Cheers!
