Brian, I'm not the biggest fan of over ambered binding and inlays (some of them are well OTT and have an almost green tint to them), but yours looks very attractive and not at all dissimilar to a vintage aged look - like this 360V64. I like it with white plastic, it lifts it nicely and the burst on yours looks great.

Oh snap! You're right, I always assumed that guitar was AFG. Which raises another question - how come FG sometimes has some amber in it? What exactly is the difference in paint color because I can't always tell.

I'd like to with the gold, but where do I find it? I can't even fine TRCs on the Rickenbacker site.

Hi brian. Love the pics. Personally like the antique finish on some AFG 360's
gives a warm smokey feel to them. Also have jetglo 12 and can
appreciate the pure white binding complementing the plates.

Hi Brian,

I got your message regarding my 360/12C63 with its gold accessories.

Actually, the pickguards are from Pickguardian ("vintage gold" color) and the TRC is one I made myself. I did this by tracing the white TRC on a piece of 1/4" clear plexi (glue-paper comes pre-applied on both sides), cutting it out with a jigsaw, sanding its edges smooth, then applying a reverse/backwards Rickenbacker logo decal I've had for some time to the backside, then spraying the back with some custom spray paint I had matched to the guards. I think it turned out quite well, and I've never seen a gold C63 TRC for sale (if so, It'd be what--$300+? Don't have a cow, Ric, I never intend to try and sell my home-made one...). Anyway--I think AFG is the very best finish Ric ever created (I love my 660/12AFG). It might be worth springing for a clear plexi gold TRC for your 360/12 and $60 for the gold guard set from Pickguardian just because it would look fabulous and be a very desirable up-grade.

Welcome, John! Your C63 is absolutely beautiful, and your playing isn't too shabby, either! :)

If you could tell us what your setup is? It sounds like a Rickenbacker through a Blackface Fender with Janglebox compressor, but I clearly see a Vox AC-30 in the background...

Tim,

Too funny that we both have a 360/6 AFG and 360/12 Jetglo! What can I say, you have great taste in Rickenbackers! 8)

Hope you didn't struggle with the righty vs. lefty decision like my brother did. He is lefty but his first guitar (the PT Rick on 1st page) was righty, some 15 years later he decided he should be playing lefty.

John,

Thanks for your prompt response and for your detailed answer! As you can see I've been flip-flopping on keeping this guitar. I like the idea of adding gold, but since Rickenbacker doesn't sell it I didn't like the idea of piecemealing stuff together with uncertain results. I was about 24 hours away from selling the guitar at the Dallas show, plus my back was hurting the day before and I couldn't carry a guitar around the show.

I like your idea of doing the plexi TRC, so much so that I'm going to attempt to do the guards as well. That way I can paint everything the same color. Or at least try to order them clear and paint them myself.

I enjoy your videos as well - keep'em coming!

Thanks again!

Hi Brian,

I'd love to see a pic or two when your gold accessories project is finished. I've never seen a 360WB in AFG before. Perhaps you've already addressed this in your posting, but is your guitar a '10 (I assume it is since you say it's "brand new"...)? I love it. AFG is my favorite Rickenbacker finish.

Thanks for the encouragement with respect to my vids. My few guitars far outstrip my abilities as a player, but they're fun to own (and quite motivating...).

Hey John,

When it's finished - I have to admit I have a bad habit of taking a long time to finish projects, mostly due to the fact that I'm a perfectionist. That and a 2 and 4 year old keep me busy. I'm also trying to get an old Vox A.C.10 redone, but I think I'll do the Rick first, and will certainly get some pictures up as well as add it to the registry. And I've never seen a 360 in AFG before which is why I was having doubts about doing it, I wasn't sure it would work. But after seeing your 360/12 C63 I was impressed enough to keep the guitar and try it... so if it doesn't work it's your fault! :) The 660 AFG, on the other hand, works perfectly!

"New" guitar - I guess you can say it's New Old Stock. AFG was color of the year in '06 but I guess Rickenbacker was still filling orders through '08 because my warranty card has a production date of "Yr: 08 Mth: 6" I guess the dealer I bought it from was sitting on it for a year and a half. Since they've discontinued the 1996 (yours is sweet btw) AFG is no longer available.

Videos - I can relate being a novice player myself, about your age, and a Jam and Bealtes fan... as well as a Rickenbacker and Vox fan of course. I want to do a couple of videos too at some point with an attempt at singing. But, being a perfectionist, I want to practice the heck out of them first and get my mic setup for my computer so...

Again thanks for your help!

Great looking guitar - hope you get over your buyer's remorse and the binding color grows on you - it looks lovely in the photos.

Yeah, I totally have! At first I couldn't enjoy the 99% that I did like - all I could see was the 1% I didn't like. Then one day it switched around and I don't even notice the binding, and I even like when I do notice it! Unfortunately I don't do much with it most of the time because there's a new-born, 2 year old, and a 4 years in the house - but I love them and hopefully someday they'll play guitar with me!
