URAL guitar and bass

Post by mikko »

I mentioned the Soviet Union made basses in my other post. I thought these URAL basses and guitars deserve their own topic. I don´t have any of these, but my co-worker said he could sell his…I´m not sure if I want it. Used URAL guitars are relatively cheap in Russia, starting from EUR 10 (~USD 13.5). Here in Finland they are almost impossible to find.
My favorite detail is that 5-pin DIN-style connector instead of normal plug. URAL V8 has 8(!) pickups.

Given the magnetic drag of a pickup I bet that the V8 one has awesome sustain!
The bass looks funky though!

That V8 model might be customized afterwards(?), but Tonika bass is my personal favorite:

Hard to beat that design.

Yeah I think the V8 was a custom guitar made by the guy who ones the Cheesy Guitars website.

I used to have a Tonika guitar. I think the soviet russian guitars look cool and some of them sound cool but most of them are really poorly made and hard to play. You really have to be careful buying them unless you can get them dirt cheap.
