"I wasn't attempting to insult you. It's not like we're incapable of making mistakes either"
I wasn't insulted, no harm done. I'd just like to get the straight info on whether they'll release it here in the States, I think a couple of copies have made their ways to collectors and those who helped with the project. Scott Jennings of Route 66 Guitars apparently helped with some photos and proofwork according to his post earlier in this same forum and he mentioned that it was finished back in Dec. 09.

You are not sorry!8mileshigh wrote:...sorry for looking so smug!

The JETGLO finish name should be officially changed to JETGLO ROCKS!

Graham sent me this little review of the book......8mileshigh wrote:It certainly does exist...............sorry for looking so smug!
"It is dead gud. Their is lots of big colorfull piktures and stuff, sum big words too.
Its a shayme that i has most of the gitars alreddy though.
The bestest bit about this book is that it looks grate next to my Noddy books on the shelf"
I'm looking forward to more reviews, if it's only twice as good as the Richard Smith book, then it's not very good at all.....

It certainly isn't going to win the Pulitzer. Not much in it, IMO, worth $17. Pretty pictures though, just not a lot of substance.

Got my copy today. Interesting bits in the model guide asserting that the V series guitars were "renamed" as the C series - discuss amongst yourselves. For $16.50 it's a good bang for the buck, nice large format at least. A lot of the pics are familiar, but some cool insights into the role the electric 12 has played in rock.

Just poor word choice. "Morphed" would be a much more accurate verb.
Last I checked, "renaming" something didn't include changing 70% of the detail specs.

Received the long awaited book yesterday. It has some nice pictures in it, but it's basically a rehash of his earlier book, sort of ho-hum. How many times can you recycle the info on Rickenbacher lapsteels; I guess it was good for filler, boosting the page count. What new information in the book could have been covered in a magazine article.
Maybe someday, a diehard Rick fan will take up the cause and write a definitive book on Rickenbacker.

I got mine from an eBay seller this week. Ihaven't read the whole thing, but my initial impression is similar to Rob's. I definitely was expecting less rehashing of previous info. Also, I'm on the fence whether there is too much about the other brands of 12-strings ... the title does say Rickenbacker in it.
I guess Graham forgot to mention in his stellar review that his name is in the Acknowledgments ...

He did. His name is Richard Smith.
In fact, it would be just as cool if Mr. Smith would revise his outdated book----same text (maybe a tad more info) but with all color pictures etc.
There's only SO much you can say about them, so i'm not surprised to hear of "re-hashing" with this book. Book's like Smiths really get to the details anyways.
I doubt we'll ever see anything for Rickenbackers with as much attention to detail as Jim Elyea's Vox book.

So are the majority of you book-reviewers saying there's more and better pictures, insight and info posted right here on the RRF than in this latest book, with its re-hashed stuff and non-Rick 12 string sections ?

Hey, Peter could just print the pages and sell them volume after volume ... a veritable Encyclopedia Ricktannia!8mileshigher wrote:So are the majority of you book-reviewers saying there's more and better pictures, insight and info posted right here on the RRF than in this latest book, with its re-hashed stuff and non-Rick 12 string sections ?
