Re: Player or Collector?
I do consider myself a collector, but I would never, ever buy something that I didn't like playing/wouldn't take out on a gig (unless it was just for a quick flip or something).

Re: Player or Collector?
I'm a player that collects Rickenbackers.
I like to play my Rics at home, but I don't gig them much because I'd be heartbroken if something happened to them or they got stolen.

Re: Player or Collector?
90% player but there are items in my collection of 50 or so instruments that don't get much of a look in because they're a bit 'special'.

Can't be a collector, wife wouldn't conscience it
Re: Player or Collector?
+me. Part of the collecting is to get a 4003 in every Coy, and lesser improtantance, every color. Not willing to take them out to anywhere they'll get nicks and dings;so I got a used, dinged, reasonably priced 4003 JG for playing out and have bonded with that.Changing PG and TRC to black has made it even nicer ,to me.Danotron wrote:Both for me. I have a strong guitar collection and play them all, however, I don't gig with them all.
Re: Player or Collector?
I'm mainly a player, although I've kinda become a collector recently... mainly because I can't so no to a good deal, even if it's an instrument I don't even play. If I think I might need something someday and it's cheap I'll totally buy it!
Re: Player or Collector?
Player. If I'm not playing it, it's gone.
Re: Player or Collector?
i would be a collector if i had more $$-i got up to 12 basses at one time, and even though i liked all of them, most of them were not doing much except sitiing in cases-i looked around and realized i had about $20k in (b)assets, and proceeded to ebay all but 3 of them. i have 4 basses now,and that seems to be an number i can keep maintained and actually rotate using. i would love to have more, but the basses i am interested in now are $$$$,so it's a pipe dream....the ones i currently have offer me some good variety of sounds....

Both here although it wasn't always this way. Back when I was gigging, I had one guitar......ONE!!!
That's what got me in to Rickenbackers.......I thought I should have one for the 12 string songs we did.
Now that I'm no longer gigging I've got about 50 of 'em. What a long strange trip it's been.

Re: Player or Collector?
I'd say I'm both player AND collector. Being a Beatlemaniac, I wanted a Gretsch 6122 Country Gentleman like George's soooo bad I could taste it. I figured I'd better learn to play the blasted thing because I'd look pretty stupid owning all that guitar and not even knowing which was the business end of it!

Re: Player or Collector?
I was initially gonna pick Both since I'm a professional musician AND own 42 basses currently, but I decided I'm not a "collector", I just buy things I like.
