The Byrds Collective - Rusty's 3/25

Post by pehayes2 »

Just a quick note to let everyone in the So. Cal area know that The Byrds Collective will be playing this Thursday (3/26/2010) at 8:30 at Rusty's Surf Ranch. Rusty's in located right on the Santa Monica Pier. The actual address is 256 Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica.

Also, this is a battle of the bands so come out a root for the old guys. You'll get to hear some cool Byrds songs and hopefully, we'll get to play some regular weekend gigs at this fun place.

Bummer; school night for me as well-my Criminal Procedure course doesn't dismiss until 9:30. This Thursday's topic is Miranda and related cases. Rock the house guys! :D

I believe the date is the 25th, rather than the 26th...?

Dennis, you are absolutely correct. The date is the 25th. Thank you for pointing it out. (And I even looked at the calendar before I posted).

Well the gig at Rusty's Surf Ranch went (in our opinion; very well). It was a tight half hour set consisting of

He Was a Friend of Mine (sound check)
Mr. Tambourine Man
I'll Feel a Whole Lot Better
Bells of Rhymney
Have You Seen Her Face?
My Back Pages
Mr. Spaceman
The World Turns All Around Her
Eight Miles High
Turn! Turn! Turn!

We had to setup (while the other band was moving out, in a matter of 10 minutes). There was a problem getting Mark's (McGuinn) leads to cut through (a janglebox configuration issue. see setup time issue :D )

The crowd seemed to enjoy it, yelling out a request for one more at the end of the show! Alas, it was a battle of the bands and we didn't win. The sound guys told us that they've been running the battle of the bands for nine years and in all that time they only had one cover/tribute band play in one. (And never a winner....)

We were told that they would have us back on a Friday (and judging from the audience reaction, it makes sense.)

We have the M Bar in Hollywood coming up April 16th and the The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano on May 30th. We'll be sharing the bill with a Beach Boys (yeah more Rickenbackers) tribute band.

I want to thank every single person that has offered us encouragement and their words of support for our endeavor. It really does mean a lot coming from our peers. (as opposed to the well wishers, friends, and ne'er-do-wells). Thank you all.

What's the time slot for the M Bar gig? Not on the club's schedule, for some reason.
