4004 Larado

Post by ricaddic »

I once again am calling on all my formite brothers and sisters, I have two 4004 Larado's , a fireglo 08 and a midblu 09, both are stock and both have the ric strings on them, the only difference besides the finishes obviously are the bridges, the 08 has the Schaller bridge and the 09 has the ABM bridge, the sound of both Larado's are like night and day, the 09 is much brighter than the 08 which is much warmer than the 09, I was thinking that maybe I would put a set of flats on the 09 and stick with rounds on the 08, does any Larado owners and players use flats on your Larado and if so what are your thoughts, opinions, and likes or dislikes with flats on a Larado, thank you, take good care, stay safe always, and "HAPPY RICKEN"

Both of my Laredo's have flats. One with TI's and one with Chromes. I can't imagine switching back to rounds. Between the two I can get any sound I need adjusting playing style, pickups, volume, and or tone. One has the VVT mod the other is stock. Try a set (TI's) and see if they work for you. If only there was a respectable dealer within driving distance of you, say maybe south jersey.

I was going to use T I JF344 Flats I use them on all my Fenders and my 4001C64, they are my favorite flats, I like the sound and tone on my 08 Larado with the rounds so dont want to change that, they would definitly o on my 09 Larado, IO have a Cii with the, V/T V/T mod and like the rounds on that too. yes there is a dealer near me in driveing distance that carries the TI flats, Pick of the Ricks.

I only use flats on my 4004's as well. D'Addario Chromes have been my flats of choice......they still have a reasonably bright tone with strong fundamental that doesn't diminish much over time. My only Laredo is in the shop now but my LK has had flats since '05 (1st Pyramids but Chromes now) and I am able to get any tone I need out of it (same as Todd) by changing technique and/or control tweaks. My tone of choice is a tad on the dirty side if that matters.

Having flats on one Laredo and rounds on the other is a great idea.....especially if you are trying to tame the brightness of the '09 by switching to flats. I still find the Chromes to be bright but certainly a tad mellower than fresh rounds. I tried 'em because at one point I had five 4004's and swapped one to flats for something different......it wasn't long before all of my Rics had flats......just a warning for ya'.

Not only does that matter, it's the only way to go!

Angelo, you might try a set of Labella Deep Talkin' Flats - they are much more growly and alive than the TIs, IMO.
Can we have everything louder than everything else?

I'm surprised it's not the opposite way with the bridges.

I've been seriously thinking about putting a set of D'Addario Chromes on my 4004Cii Jetglo.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS! :-)

Hey Joey my dear friend, you may be right and probibly are, ok the bridge on my 09 is the bridge that Ric has been putting on the 4004's normally, and the bridge on the 08 is the different bridge they started useing back in 08, because I remember when Chris started getting his shipments of 4004's in the spring of 08 they were arriveing with the two different bridges.

Hey Angelo,

I used Rotosound flats on my 4003 in the past and liked it very much! I liked the feel and sound but eventually changed them because the rock music that I play needs more "boom", thus the rounds. Maybe I'll put flats on the 4003 next time around and keep the rounds on the 4004. :?:

By the way, any suggestions on flats that resemble rounds at all (flat yet boomy)? Someone said LaBella's...

Hmmm...
