IS PAUL USING AUTO-TUNE!?!?!

Post by congerz83 »

There is a rumor floating around that Paul's "Live at Citi Field" as auto-tune correcting. This would break my heart! It took me weeks to recover from the whole "Paul uses a telelprompter" thing.

Hey, if you're gettin' botox injections and eyelid surgery, why not go for the teleprompter and auto-tune?

You're only young once, right?

Yeah, I've heard this debated back and forth. I wouldn't be surprised if he did, either.

not having an occasional clunker outside note or two during a live performance is soooo boring.

I agree 100% Paul. I even HATE the overdubs on Wings Over America. These guys gotta age gracefully and stop trying to fool us!!! Part of the fun of seeing Bruce is he cant his some of those notes anymore! To Paul's credit though, like Bruce, songs are in their original key. Thank god! Anybody see how AWFUL the Zeppelin O2 gig was? They should be ashamed to call that Led Zeppelin. I can understand tuning down 1/2 step but 1-1/2 steps!?!?! BOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

In my opinion, it wouldn't bother me if Paul was using AutoTune at live gigs. He's earned it!

He's more than proved that he's an incredible singer over the years and It's not fair to expect him to sing those high songs just like he did when he was in his 20's or even 40's.
If he was using it, I would see it as a tool to help a live performance but not define his singing talent like so many of these younger singers do now days. They abuse that AutoTune!

Ok I'll get off my soapbox now... lol

Paul can use whatever he wants - he's earned that right in my book. Bruce should not be mentioned in the same conversation IMO.....

Unfortunately, there are several existing bootlegs of the Citi shows....there is virtually no chance that Paul did not have the album cleaned up with some sort of pitch correction algo....simple a/b with some of the better bootlegs and there is a remarkable difference in the quality.

I know people condemn him for it, but I'd rather listen to the Faux McCartney show on the official release than what really went on over at CitiField....

Can auto-tue be used live, or only on the recordings for release?

The reason I ask is that I saw SIr Paul at Fenway Park shortly after the Citi FIeld show(s) and he was spot-on vocally.
Can we have everything louder than everything else?

I have my own personal recordings from his Radio City show and I can tell you he's as spot on as you would expect for a live show.

Anyone who believes that a live album isn't touched up by ANY performer is living in a fantasy world. And I'm actually being polite by saying that... 8)

Yes, auto-tune or pitch correction is very sophisticated these days...it's #1 in a lot of racks, before eq, compression, etc...

I do agree with bigbottom that it's naive to think these live albums aren't touched up....Paul is "spot on" on the Citi bootlegs I have (multiple sources of every night), just not quite THAT on....

Hell, Wings Over America was all retouched bkgrd vocal wise....te Boston, and Seattle bootlegs from that tour CLEARLY - VERY CLEARLY - show Denny & Linda do not John & George make....in fact, they were quite dreadful some nights....WOA is one of my all time fav live albums though....

Cheers!
