Tbh, it's kind of hard to guess by looking at his guitars. Is there no Snow Patrol forum where they might know?

I actually checked there first and no one seems to know at all. Just what kind of bass and what kind of plectrum he uses. Its really to satisfy a curiosity.

Miles, I know what you mean - it took me some time to find the info for Peter Buck's strings and it was listed on just one page.

Do they have an official FB or Twitter page? If they do, why not ask there?

Yeah, I've posted some stuff on there and though helpful as they are one response said that I should ask him one night after one of their shows. Fortunately someone else chimed in with an interview that told me all about his gear but not his strings, still a cool read though.
