Adjustable Poles on an '82?

Post by jc-sz »

I'm most positive the adjustable poles came around AFTER 2003 (cause my 4003 is 03 and doesn't have them) but just to make sure, I was looking at an 82 the other day and it had adjustable poles, I asked if there was any other mod besides the pups and they said nothing was changed and it was all original... I usually don't trust statements like that, specially in this case when the shop owner is definitely not the first owner of the bass... so, am I right?

Cheers!

Not original. My '84 does not have adjustable poles and it is original...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

don't the adjustable coils have the same coil form as the toaster with those 2 visible raised areas along the width ?

The button top higains have the same coil form as the toaster too. But they came around later than '82 - '89 or '90 IIRC.

An 80s higain would measure around 8.4k and a new adjustable higain would measure around 11.4k.

Thanks All! I'm glad to see I could find that detail... It's funny how them sellers state that a thing is 100% original when they don't even know if they guy who they bought it from was even the first owner...

Anyways... Nice to see I'm not so easy to trick!

Cheers!

I think the adjustable poles came in 2006. I've got one in the treble position of my '89 4003S. It's great! '92 toaster at the neck...

Some older pickups look like they're adjustable but they're actually not.

I know, but not the allen ones. The vintage ones would be turned (not that you're supposed to do it) with a flat screwdriver... In any case, those wouldn't have been original on an 82.

Thanks for the input everyone!!
