Discount Chromes ?

Post by VRICKY63 »

Daddario Chromes are not my favorite strings but I know many players here like them. I guess Fender now has a deal with Daddario for flatwound bass strings. I ordered a set of Fender 55-105 flatwounds from ebay recently. The package was white with a photo of a white P bass. Inside was a set of the old style (my favorite) green wrap flats. When I got the news Fender was no longer making the old style flats I ordered another set just to have on hand. When the new order showed up it was the new black and green package with the big silver F on the front. Same gauge flatwounds but very clearly not the old style Fenders. These are "Chromes". The stainless wrap is more narrow than the Fenders and the ball ends are different colors (green silver red gold). The cost difference between Fender flats and Chromes can be $7-$15 depending. Anyway if you order Fender flats to get Chromes find out what the package looks like. Could save a few bucks. I do have two basses here with Chromes on them and the new Fender flats are identical. Hope this is accurate. I do not want to mislead anyone.

There's been a good bit of discussion about this on another forum...

I like Chromes and picked up a set of the "new" Fender flats to see for myself. I can't say whether they're identical to Chromes in composition, but they're close enough for my purposes. I'll be saving a few bucks per set. :)

Sorry Matt, I had to remove your link. Please do not post links to other forums here. It avoids the possible spill over of controversy and inflammatory comments from elsewhere and it's also against the rules of this form. Thanks.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS! :-)

If these really are Chromes then the 9050L set is what I was begging D'Addario to put together for some time with their Chromes, minus the E string which is a bit smaller than I'd like (but probably tolerable).

I should clarify. They are not identical. Chromes are more shiny. Other than that...............Chromes.
