The First Female RIC-playing Singer/Songwriter
Speaking of female singers and singwriters, who was the first female entertainer to use RIC guitars regularly? Is it Suanna Hoffs, Melibee or someone who came before?

The word "regularly" may trip me up here. I'm thinking of Suzi Arden who had one of the earliest 360/12 strings. Man, I sure hope my memory isn't playing tricks on me or I'm going to be real embarrassed.
The other thing is I'm not certain she wrote any of her own material. Anyhow, she played a Rickenbacker 12 string before George Harrison got his.

Suzi is the correct answer, I believe, and she had the first Rick 12 string guitar.
Re: The First Female RIC-playing Singer/Songwriter
OK, but was she a singer and a song writer, as well? All I know about her is that she was indeed an entertainer. I think that is the technicality that the OP was getting at.
Re: The First Female RIC-playing Singer/Songwriter
Good question. Let me know the answer in the morning.
Re: The First Female RIC-playing Singer/Songwriter
Yep, I was getting at a female performer that used a RIC as part of her entire creative and entertainment process. I have seen the Photo of Suzi with the 12-string and the rest of her country band also with RICs as well. I was wondering if I missed someone in the '60s/'70s that may have used it as part of the British craze. We all know the usual suspects as far as men go, but any women then or now (Kira? You're into artists from then, yes?)

Who came first, Carla Olson or Sue Hoffs?
Also, kids, let's not forget that the Bangles' hits were not self-penned.

Glad I checked the thread. I was going to guess that the FIRST female songwriter/guitarist to use a Rick was a lap steeler.jdogric12aolcom wrote:Sweethearts of the Air

HI forumites, long time.....I remember some years ago that Suzi posted on here and there was a discussion about her having the first 12 string Ric. SOmeone was discussing her and lo, and behold, she actually popped up in person. Anyone else remember that?

Hey, nice to see you back on the Forum !

I don't recall Suzi herself on the forum, but her cousin, Carol, has been on here occasionally.
