+1! There are a lot of great lightweight neodymium speaker cabs out there. Its also worth considering a modular speaker setup - get two 2 X10 cabinets and use one or both depending on the size of the gig. Or get a good combo amp which decent power and add another speaker cabinet if necessary.

That's not mine. Google was my friend. I just remember them from back in the Pleistocene.

When I decided to start playing out again, it only took a couple of auditions to realize that I don't want to haul around large, old possibly antique gear,so I made the rounds of lightweight gear in checkout, and also applied the frugal (ok,cheapskate)nature, and settled on a Behringer 300 wt combo. Not too heavy, and cheap enough that I wouldn,t cry too long if it failed or got swiped.
In the almost 2 year time I've had it, it has done neither, and has worked well, and is louder that I've yet needed.

This has been really helpful to me as well. I'm in the same spot as Paul's brother, getting out there after nearly 3 decades. Went vintage and picked up a Sunn Coliseum Lead head for my '76 4001 (it arrives Monday). Until reading this thread, and buying this Month's Bass Played mag, I didn't realize 10" speakers was the new standard. Need to find new cabinets. Guess I didn't need to cart those JBL E-140's around all these years. Thanks all!

Picked up a Mesa Scout Walkabout (1X12 combo) - great great great sound but not ear shattering loud. Played years and years through a GK 400RB / Trace 410 (pre Gibson) - not the best sounding setup and the cab had some weight - but nothing like an old folded horn cab - but more importantly the GK had the living **** beat out of it and it never failed to work... Got to say that MM Cab looks cool in an old school way.

Although you are talking about matured musicians who will be treating their gear with respect.

Bass cabs with 2 x 10" and 4 x 10" configurations have been popular for at least 20 years. 2 x 12" cabs are becoming more popular in recent years.I have an Avatar 2 x 12" cab. It's very loud and it's only 56 lbs. because it has neodymium speakers.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS! :-)

+1 on the Avatar cabs. I have a 2x10 neo and a 1x12 that I can combo or solo depending on the gig running with my Markbass LMII. I like the new retro look of the cabs as an option.
