Picked up my bass yesterday
Funny story, I picked up my 4003 Fireglo from being set up yesterday. When I got it, it had old strings...probably since it was new in 97, board was a bit dirty and the mute wasn't working property. 100 dollars later, the bass shines like new, the frets gleam and the fretboard shines like glass , new strings and the mute works perfectly... This luthier does great work and was inexpensive! They were finishing up a refin on a mandolin when I picked up the bass. Anyhow....when they brought my bass out to me to check to see if the action was right for me and see if I was happy, a crowd of other customers came up to ooohh and ahhh over my Ric. I was almost giddy. People have a real affection for these things!

Re: Picked up my bass yesterday
Hey thanks alot. I posted pics of it a couple of months ago. I think the thread was something like" I'm a Rick Freak!" I do need to post an update in her gleaming glory though!

Absolutely! We always like seeing pics of Ricks, even if we've seen 'em before!

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
Re: Picked up my bass yesterday
This thread is making me soooooooo impatient to just go out and buy my first ric already.... patience!

Just do it! But watch out, RAS (Rickenbacker Acquisition Syndrome) is a dangerous thing. It starts with the first one, then you see another that you really like, and before long, you end up with something like this: Sorry, I just couldn't handle this thread without any pictures...AdamBomb wrote:This thread is making me soooooooo impatient to just go out and buy my first ric already.... patience!

Yeah, that's about seven years of collecting, except for my original '72 which I bought in '75. It's been refinished in a berry burst color (center single stand). The colors on that shot are not true due to the compact fluorescent bulbs and inaccurate "white balance."

Hahaha thanks for not making it easy, this money is burning a hole in my pocket! Really, I'm still debating whether to buy a new or vintage Ric, how much I wanna spend. After seeing the quality of this forum I think I'm gonna wait until I hit 30 posts so I can see what you guys have for sale as well. This post count thing is actually helping me save money, thanks!
