Case question.
Hey gang,Im wondering about my vintage case that came with my V64 im not to sure about the padding in it and the full protection of the 360.Would it be better in one of my 330/360 cases whilst out and about? what do you think? Im not to sure about the vintage cases giving as much protection as the new ones.
Re: Case question.
As much as I like the look of the vintage cases, I don't doubt that the regular SKB cases offer better protection.
Re: Case question.
I've always thought that the SKB with its padding is better with jostles, spills, and everyday clumsiness but that the plywood construction is better against serious impacts or crushes.
All I wanna do is rock!
Re: Case question.
I think the SKBs offer better neck support, but that's just my humble opinion.
Re: Case question.
+1 on the SKB cases.
While I have heard of one or two being "crushed" at the corners while shipping etc, they offer greater protection for gigging etc. because they don't allow the guitar to move because of the contours around the body.
Plus, you can keep your silver case in mint condition at home.

I like the vintage style cases better. But it's mostly because I'm an old fart and just like 'em. I have to say, the SKB looks like it should provide better protection, but with the bass cases, there is a problem where the edge of the body can contact something beneath the padding causing damage like this:
That's how my brand new AFG arrived from the dealer.
I've seen it on others as well...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Re: Case question.
I personally prefer the case my April '73 4001FL came in that offers body contour, full neck support and tough tolex/plywood construction. The moulded cases are prone to foot-cave-in as well as corner mashing.
It doesn't seem as if the plywood/tolex w/ full protection would be such a stretch to go back to; offer vintage silver if you want, but add a pad from neck butt to near headstock and a body contour for how much?
My first bass, an '80 4001 came with one of these also. Rock solid as the day is long.

Can we have everything louder than everything else?
Re: Case question.
Just watch those metal edges on the SKB's, ding city.
Re: Case question.
Laddie, it's a padded cell ye need for your head case!
