RIC PT1998 Pete Townshend model
Hi folks! My first visit here. Anyone know where I'd get hold of a RIC PT1998 Pete Townshend model. I'm a HUGE 'Who' fan but all the '60s originals appear to have been smashed up for some strange reason! I can't find much on the web about this particular model, all I know is that it looks the absolute business (gotta love those triple toaster pick-ups and the 'f' hole!) If it's good enough for Pete, etc ... Do they still make these? If so, where can I get one and how much would I have to pay in the UK? Any thoughts on the matter much appreciated! I've just sold my scooter (for a little more than I was expecting!) and I am hoping to replace it with something musical. Can't think of anything better than a Pete Townshend Ricky to fit the bill. PS: This is a cool site!!!
Re: RIC PT1998 Pete Townshend model
Paul, the Pete Townshend models were a limited run. They still pop up for sale every now and again, but you'll probably have more luck (and save a lot of $$$) if you look for a 1997SPC (3 pickups, F hole, unbound... same as Pete's but with trapeze tailpiece instead of 'R') or a vintage 1998.
The 1997 can be had for a heap less than a 1998PT.
Good luck!

Noel beat me to it.
here is what i was posting anyhow........
Hi Paul.the PT 1998 were only a limited edition so they are not being made anymore.250 were made and i think they all sold before they made the catalog. If you are in UK they do not surface that often hence being rarer than a honest politician. Monetary wise in the UK you would probably be looking at £3000-£3500 possibly more maybe.Im wondering if youve maybe seen this that would interest you.Ok no F hole but you could replace the hi gains with toasters.

Welcome to the RRF and what kind of scooter did you sell? A lammy perhaps?

Re: RIC PT1998 Pete Townshend model
Ahh! I didn't realise they were Limited Edition. Not much chance of finding one if there were only 250 made. Even if I did I couldn't afford one anyways. I'll go investigate the RIC you mentioned on evilBay. Thanks for the heads up. The scoot was an old Vespa by the way, I miss it! I'm back on the bus these days. The sacrifices we make for cool guitars eh? Once a RIC is secured I'll need to get myself a Vox to play it through too.

This one (if it really is one) went through eBay without a bid - it's not mint and no signature pickguard may explain it. It's a long way to go for one!

F-hole Rics and Vespas? A man with taste!
For the guitar----I'll tell anybody the same thing: The PT model is wildly overpriced for what it is. Typically they sell between $4K and $6K .....and there is NOTHING special about them over a standard production reissue other than a decorative pickguard and a slip of paper "certificate."
Consider that a typical 1997SPC reissue is identical to the PT, with a different tailpiece, and usually sells around $2K
It'd be one thing if the PT was a dead-on reissue of a 60's Rose Morris 1998, but it's no less inaccurate than the other reissues. Great guitars, but i'd suggest to take the $6K you would have spent on a PT reissue and put it down on most of a vintage 60's Rose Morris or a standard Reissue for a third of the price.
Here's my '64 RM1998
and one of my old Vespas!
I was a professional scooter mechanic for a few years, and sold the SS180 Grimstead (and many more scooters) and also started buying guitars instead. Never been happier than getting rid of these old things.
Anyways, there are a number of scooterists on the forum, always glad to see another (even an ex-scooterist!)
