Ric-O-Sound Questions
I'm a total newbie to Rickenbackers in general and am still in the process of deciding just which bass I would like to purchase. However one factor that I find highly attractive is the idea of Ric-o-sound. Where does it originate and what amps in particular encompass it classically? Are there also some more avant-garde players who've used really strange combinations to get crazier sounds from it as well, and if so who were they, and what were they using? Trying to get some ideas as to what kind of amps I'm looking at; I'm used to using an Ampeg SVT II with an 8x10, which I will still use when necessary, but I also want to get something smaller, but with massive tone variation since I'm going to be joining a guitar-less band so sometimes that sonic register is going to end up in my hands when not being covered by keys. Would adding a 1x18 or 2x15 with my SVT II and a 2x12 with a Marshall guitar head be a solid choice? If not, what are some combinations I should look into after I purchase my ric? I would like to get an idea of the purist perspective on this so I have a logical launching point to experiment from as well as some ideas of stranger ground that's already been covered.

Thanks for pointing out the search feature. I just figured this might be something somebody wouldn't mind discussing with me without resorting to thread necromancy.
