Zakk Wylde

Post by electrofaro »

At work we were discussing signature models and I said: "Who's this Zakk Wylde guy anyway? Why would I want a guitar with the name of a guy on it I've never heard of???"
A Colleague said: "You should know him!"
Me: "Why?"
The Colleague: "Do you know who I think of when I think of Rickenbacker"
Me: "John Lennon?"
The Colleague looks at me in a funny way: "Lennon? No, Lemmy. Or Paul McCartney!"

I forgot the guy has a PRS bass (he claims he's even got a tattoo of it) otherwise I might've guessed he would go for a bass player.
Funny that he apparantly never associated Lennon with Rickenbackers! Weird conversation, though

So, should I know Zakk Wylde? He probably makes types of music you'll never catch me listening to... ... ... :?:

He's a Les Paul slinging guitarist who fronts Black Label Society and has been Ozzy Osbourne's guitarist for many years.

He used to look like a Lynyrd Skynyrd roadie -now he looks like a viking beserker.

Either way *yawn* ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Tripe is tripe.

If you're into the more modern style of hard rock/heavy metal school of playing, Zakk is one of the big guns.

He's played for some time with Ozzy (who's known for recruiting some of the best young metal players for his projects), and has his own band, Black Label Society.

I don't play anything like him, nor do I really want to, but I do think he's pretty amazing. The fact that he has a signature Les Paul (Gibson and Epiphone), Flying V, and some sort of hybrid between a V and an SG in more than one color option (Bullseye, Camouflage, and a Custom shop model covered in bottle caps) indicates to me that these guitars must sell pretty well for Gibson, although I've never seen anyone outside of Zakk playing one.

I'm aware of the Zakk Wylde Les Paul, but my only acquaintance with his playing was seeing him play with Ozzie on TV, at some live concert last year. My impression? His playing style on those songs was a machine-gun splattering of pig grunts, farts, and squeals. I'd never before heard a musical style that was primarily embellishment. My .02, YMMV.

I youtubed him and all I can say is that falling asleep is not possible if you put his stuff on!

See, I'm into alternative, punk, folk... nothing too loud, really.

nice to see that zakk does not use a whammy bar for metal. i liked his "no more tears" chugging sound.

He also has a set of EMG signature pickups. They are active if I recall correctly.

Great player, but I wouldn't want to be playing a guitar onstage with a giant target on the front.

Open season!

Um... wasn't thinking of that, but after Dimebag's murder, yah.

I remember after it happened, Ted got this little Korina-handled derringer installed on a magnetic plate on the back of his guitar:

I won't be rushing his stage for a hug!

Ah, of course......Mr. Tough Guy "Motor City Madman" needs a tiny Derringer to protect himself.

I'd say his crossbow setup is sufficient (and way tuff ...)
