HiGain Pickups in a 4003

Post by bartyclue »

I have a 2007 4003. I also just bought a 3001 bass which has the single humbucker and it sounds amazing. How do i tell what pickups are in the 4003? Is there a higain set of pickups that I can put it in the 4003? I'm new to the forum but not new to playing ric's. I have however just played them and not given much thought to "whats under the hood" until I bought the 3001. Thanks in advance for any help provided.

Hi Brian,

Higains are standard issue on 4003s. If the pups on your 4003 have black polepieces they are Higains, which are single-coil pickups.

If you are after humbuckers for your 4003, they are available at the RIC boutique, sku 00060. You will need to do a little tinkering to use them on a 4001 as they are intended for mounting on the top of a guitar/bass, but nothing too serious.

Hi Evan, many thanks for the reply. If I may ask another question... my 4003 has the Higain pickups. But they dont appear to be as "hot" as the Humbucker on the 3001. I have played both bass with the same amp and the 3001 just Kills it. I am pretty sure the 3001 is stock. Are Humbuckers that much more vibrant? I really dig how the 3001 sounds and wonder if putting them on the 4003 would achieve the same. Does RIC make these pickups or are they Seymour Duncans or some other such vendor? The pickup you reference is a neck and a bridge pickup... correct?

Thanks again

The HB1are hotter than the current higains. 15k vs 11.4k ohms. Stronger magnets too. You would use the same pickup in both places. The bridge position plastic mounting bracket has holes in it to screw the pickup to. You need to get long enough screws with washers and nuts.

RIC makes all their own pickups.

I got to play a 3000 last Saturday - they scream too! I actually liked the short scale. Didn't think I would.
