Rich, PM received and replied to.... you should have a chord sheet for "Can't Let Go" in hand.

Looking more like a Maxi-Con!
With a crowd that size, there won't be room for Paul's pedal board for sure!

Hmm, I have a few days off after finals and before the er...Maxicon (?) I've been thinking of building my own anyway; maybe one that's carousel shaped that spins on its axis like a "Lazy Susan" spinning table tray, so I could save space and just spin it around to get at the pedal I need at the moment.BuddyDog wrote:Looking more like a Maxi-Con!

Yeah, this is going to be big. Maybe we should move it to Gary's house instead...

You can move my name to the 'be there' list, Paul. Although, if anyone is severely deodorant-challenged or took advantage of free burrito Friday, I won't stay long. Btw, good luck with school.

Anyone planning on playing during the Surf set?
If so let me know and tell me what song or songs you want to do.

Rich and I will be happy to take turns backing you, and I'll email John Hall with the surf set list to see if he can make it.
I think my band will all be there; I'll find out for sure. If there's time, and space, we could jump onstage for five songs..which should occupy all of about 20 minutes tops-wrt song lenght and execution, we go for the Ramones school of no dead air/one song after another delivery.

At some prior MiniCons, there were several jammers who played along on a fairly decent redition we did of "Pipeline".elreydlp wrote:Anyone planning on playing during the Surf set?

I think Gary plays "Walk Don't Run" pretty good and he may know several other Ventures and Surf tunes.
I have been practicing the accompaniment chords for "Miserlou" ... so if you cover the Dick Dale parts !
Looks like Collin has some familiarty with "Miserlou" and he may know a few other surf tunes too.
Maybe someone attending, who owns a Carl Wilson model will show us a few CW licks or Beach Boys tunes. My guess is that once getting a feel for some of these songs that some of the jammers will start remembering doing this or that oldie they played in their youth ..... Sometimes spontaneity will take a jam moving in a certain direction. Skip, if you can cover the surfy lead licks and can give participants the basic chord patterns, I'm sure there will be more accompaniment players .... isn't something like "Wipeout" a three or four chord tune ? I think "Surfin USA" can be played as a basic three chorder. Is "Little GTO" by Ronnie and the Daytonas considered a surf song or do Hot Rod songs blur the distinction ?

Re: Who's up for a So Cal Minicon Saturday, May 8th?
Any participants interested in possibly getting together beforehand for a little Pre Jam practice and figure out a few chord patterns, bass lines and verses ?? Time and Location TBD --- depends upon how many participants and what location is convenient. Paul A. will join us for the practices, but he is tied up beforehand with his studies/Finals.
So just taking a straw poll to find out who might consider getting together for a few hours, one or possibly two evenings next week --- Wednesday May 5th --- and/or Thursday May 6th --- and/or Friday May 7th
First-timers who want to get acquainted and any of our out-of-town participants are certainly welcome to join practice.
Location TBD depends how many Ricken-jammers are participating, if we go to somebody's house or rent a studio.
Apologies beforehand to anyone philosophically opposed
to the concept of a Pre-Jam, jam !!
But you're welcome to come to the practice anyway just to socialize with us

You'll arrive in perfect timing ... the MiniCon Roadies will have done all the lugging gear in and setting up !melibreits wrote: our flight comes into Santa Ana at 11:30 am on Saturday! I hope we can make it to the Minicon before the fun begins....
Re: Who's up for a So Cal Minicon Saturday, May 8th?
I can probably come down a little early on the 8th, but not mid-week. Too far after a hard day at work.
