Sorry,, I should know this. Do the V63's have the cap installed?

I'm refering to my '88 if the answer is year specific.

Dont want to mod it,, just curious and to lazy to remove the guard.

Not a silly question. The 4001V63 doesn't have the .0047mf cap.

For those who added the cap to the V63- are you happy with the results? I'm thinking of adding one, maybe with the push/pull pot (if it fits). Does it help get the vintage 4001 sound? I've found the Horseshoe is much hotter than the Hi Gain in my '76 4001; the two sound different to begin with, so I'm wondering if the mod is worth doing.

The cap does help bring down the output of the horseshoe pickup some, as did my reshaping the shoes to enable lowering the pickup a bit more. It does get the V63 closer to the vintage sound. 5 year old Chromes help, too, especially, for that McCartney tone.

Plug that channel of your Rick-O-Sound into a 100 watt Marshall, and crank it up, it won't sound like a telephone any more

I've done some experiments lately and convinced myself that the "thinness" the cap supposedly adds only manifests if you are plugging into a low input impedance. Anything adequate--probably upwards of 1 M--makes the tonal change sound like a drop in the bucket.

It depends on the year I believe. I think the pots changed for the V63 at the same time the pots changed in the 4003. My 1992 V63 has 500K ohm tone pots. I sold my 1998 V63 before checking the pot codes, but I'm pretty sure (based on it's tone) that it had 250K ohm tone pots.

The V63 doesn't have Rick O Sound, but I like what you're sayin!
