Overall (non-burst) Walnut
This should go in the Marketplace, but you should see this: It's a rare overall Walnut 4001, not the sunburst style. I've seen only a few of these, and I like 'em. I'm a bit put-off by the seller's imperfect eBay rating, though.

Thanks for the post, I enjoyed seeing that. I've seen guitars that finish but not basses. Hilarious, the serial is OG. I'm gangsta!!!

Here's Bob Terhune's 1976 overall Walnut 4001. He has V63 pickups and spaced the Toaster 1/2" from the fretboard. This was shot at the MARF in April '07.

Paul,
You beat me to it. I was just about to post a picture. Here it is anyway. Not much different from yours.

You guys should take note:
The one on eBay:
1. Must have been owned by a miner, as it's got "miner dings".
2. Is 75' long. Perhaps ex-Hard Rock Cafe, somewhere in coal country?

If it's 75' long, it might be Spinal Tap that's selling it.jingle_jangle wrote:You guys should take note:

Re: Overall (non-burst) Walnut
Reminds me a bit of the "root-beer" brown Fender finish from the 70's, (although I think that was opaque).

That Fender finish reminds me (in turn) of the plaster casts of The Last Supper that are hawked by the "entrepreneurs" at the San Ysidro border crossing lineup. I look at them and really, I don't want to know the origins of the brown overall color that they're painted with.

Miner dings.............
As an aside, I have a number of friends that are miners and as I recall from numerous conversations with them lifting what my Australian friends refer to as "tinnies" I am led to believe that they don't engage in minor damage. They tend to complete the job, in the pursuit of total destruction. They also did the vast majority of the lifting of "tinnies" too.

"IT COMES WITH IT'S ORIGINAL CASE!"

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Re: Overall (non-burst) Walnut
The Fender color being discussed is actually two colors that are often confused:
1. Walnut , which shows wood grain (I have a '76 Precision fretless w/ maple board in this finish that looks and sounds great); and
2. Mocha brown, which shows a bit less wood grain and has a somewhat metallic tinge to it. These came with black pickguards starting in about '74.
Anyway, onto that 4001 - it looks great to me; nice change of pace from the more common colors.

Can we have everything louder than everything else?
