This is one of my favorite bands; I don't believe they've ever been mentioned on the forum before. Quite understated, but IMO effective, use of the Rick here. Enjoy.

Thumbs up! The Clientele are fantastic. My love of mid-to-late 60s (and later) bands like The Association, The Buckinghams and The Zombies helped me discover these guys. iTunes sometimes gets it right when offering the "if you like this, you might like this" suggestions. "Bonfires on the Heath" is a masterpiece, imo. I played that record daily since I picked it up a few months ago. I just went back and got "God Save The Clientele" and "Strange Geometry" which are worthy efforts, too. I know long-time fans like the older, lo-fi stuff, but I think they sound much better now.

Alasdair is a great guitarist and his 330 sounds amazing (I know he plays a Fender for some tunes), but since I'm a bassist, I have to give it up to James Hornsey for his solid bass work.

Since posting these videos, I've gone back and listened to a bunch of their stuff, and have come to the conclusion that the bass playing might be the best thing about them. The songs are so sparsely arranged (not in a bad way) that the bass is really needed for dynamic rhythm and melody. Too bad the guy doesn't play a Rick!

Totally agree. I'm still kicking myself for missing their concert a few months back. They were playing about 80 miles from me and I neglected to go.
