Changing the neck pickup position on a 4003s/5

Post by JW »

I need to get a new pickguard for my 4003s/5 and was thinking of having one made that would put the neck position pickup a half in closer to the neck like the 4001v63. I realize this would involve routeing out some wood for the pickup to fit.

I am hoping this would give the bass a slightly more vintage tone, and not pose any structural problems.

help!

I just gave an answer to this on the AGR NG. Yes, is the answer to the tone question; No is the answer to structural, as long as you only route as much as needed to get clearance for the PU.If you do this and need pickguard help, contact me at : [email protected] I can custom make something that will work, if a stock guard won't.
