The Mojo Men.. inspired by The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, they recorded for the Autumn Records label in San Francisco were produced by Sylvester Stewart, later better known as Sly Stone.
One of the first San Francisco psych bands, the Mojo Men began as a British Invasion inspired group but as time passed, the group developed more intricate arrangements and harmonies that reflected the psychedelic folk/rock influences happening in San Francisco.
not often mentioned they played a large part in creating the SF Psych scene of the mid 1960's
They had one hit the Buffalo Springfield tune "Sit Down, I Think I Love You"..the song was released in March 1967, and featured a new member, Jan Ericco/Ashton, a female vocalist/drummer who had defected from another San Francisco band, The Vejtables.
The Vejtables also recorded on The Autumn label..when sourcing out records round here I often see their 45's

"Sit Down" was the cause of a big blow up between the members of our band. The Bass player & I wanted to do the Springfield version-the two drummers and keyboard player wanted the Mojo Men version. After almost coming to blows and me threatening to quit, we decided not to do it at all.
