Rockin' my 3001
Just have to share - I played out this weekend with my 1979 walnut model 3001 bass. For me to play at my best, I need to see that my drummer Jeff is happy with my sound and feel (he can usually hear me better than I can hear myself). Well, Jeff had a big grin on, we got into it, and it was a good day. It's a great bass, IMO, that not too many people have the privilege to play. Has a different sound... "sort of" closer to a Fender... but still a Rick, and I definitely play it differently than a Fender due to the neck shape.
Anyone else playing out with a 3001?

Nice axe! The first RIck I ever played was a 3000 series in MG. It was loaned to me for a run of Jesus Christ Superstar my senior year of HS in December 1980.
P.S. - I like the bass much more than the carpet.

Can we have everything louder than everything else?

I like it! I've got an Autumnglo 4001, but have never played a 3001. Do you have it strung with flats or rounds?
Re: Rockin' my 3001
1) fretlessonly: you dis my carpet, you dis me!
2) marc61: I'm in Hastings.
3) woodyng: the bridge is aluminum. The original bridge was installed a little off center & this is easier to adjust side-to-side (although yes it is not a perfect design); and I like to be able to palm mute.
4) hieronymous: it's got rounds. I have flats on at least half of my basses, but this one likes the rounds.
I really dig this bass. It's high on my rotation, along with a 1991 Japanese Fender P-bass, strung with flats; a Rob Allen fretless strung with LaBella tapes; and my 1973 FG 4001!!

Lovely. I love everything Walnut/AutumnGlo
Just curious. One pickup and two knobs. Obviously volume and tone, but what does the third knob do?

The third knob controls the warp factor.Wiker wrote:Lovely. I love everything Walnut/AutumnGlo![]()

Actually 2 tone, one volume: http://www.rickenbacker.com/pdfs/19504.pdf
Re: Rockin' my 3001
VTT. The first tone control is a "normal" passive treble cut (roll-off). The 2d is a passive bass cut. I've never seen another bass (or guitar for that matter) with a passive bass cut. It actually is quite useful. [Edited out repeat link to schematic.]

The Gibson Les Paul Triumph bass guitar has passive treble and bass controls - among other controls! 3 knobs & 4 switches!
