McCartney w/o flats? Sacrilege?

As a compromise, I put Sadowsky flats on my Sadowsky P/J. Flats are comfortably and easy to play, but still weird to me. I can nail the Jamerson style with it and I like it for that, but on a Ric...still seems like an unnatural act.

I agree that you'll be fine with the right settings and palm muting. BUT - I have to say, there's something about flats that you can't totally reproduce with anything but... flats! Just last night I tracked a new song of mine with my one flatwound equipped bass - a '73 Guild JSII. I seriously considered putting flats on my CS, cause I really wanted to use a Ric on the track, but the Guild has its own mojo that I dig, so I spared myself the trouble. BTW - I am LOVING Guitar Rig 4 for recording bass, and I'm a hard core, miked tube amp purist.

+1. There is nothing like the sound of flats, played with a pick, through a slightly overdriven all tube amp.
