fireglow- touch-up or refin?

Post by zenitb »

I have some experience in refinishing natural and solid color Gibson/Fender guitars. Ricks are new to me and I wonder about Fireglow refinishing or touchups.
I need advice on supplies/materials. an anyone help?
Thanks!

Try posting this in the Reflections Of A Curmudgeon section, as Paul is the finish guru here.

I'd refinish it in Translucent REd if it has a nice grain, or a solid fire engine red if the grain is plain, but that's just me. :D

Yeah, an old Fireglow finish looks like a translucent red that spent a few years in the sun. The grain isn't anything too special - but I am getting away from solid finishes, too many Fenders I guess? I just sold my last Tele.

Hey Michael --- just saw that you were a new member and also residing in the L.A. area.... so wanted to extend greetings and welcome you aboard :D :D and mention that we have periodic Rick Jam Sessions/Mini Confluences 8) here in So Cal, where you can meet fellow Forum members, learn stuff and drool over other Rickenbackers and play some favorite tunes with like-minded Rick enthusiasts. Check out the threads and pictures posted in the Confluence's section.

There's also going to be a Northern Calif Mini Con Jam Session coming on Saturday July 24th, if you might be travelling in the vicinity ....
