From BeatlesNews.com: http://www.beatlesnews.com/news/paul-mccartney.html

"According to a Paul McCartney representative, the 'attack' on his tour bus in Mexico City didn't quite happen as reported in the UK paper The Mirror. In truth, the bus was just surrounded by fans. The McCartney rep told the Gossip Cop website, 'No one was terrified,' and the mob attack story is 'very much exaggerated.' "

And...remember that story about him being dead forty years ago? Also very much exaggerated...

In any event I am with you Stan. Mexico is not and has never been a destination that I have been fond of. Many parts are controlled by violent gangs that have no qualms about gunning down innocent tourists when they are pursuing rival factions. We have a tourist advisory in place here in Canada for Mexican destinations..........finally.

I am glad Paul is OK. I suspect his handlers are just playing down the event to avoid copycat situations.

Oh, I dunno...I've been to Mexico many times and never had a problem...which certainly is not to say it isn't a dangerous place. Every place in the world that features an economic system where 2% of the population (who are the modern descendants of invading conquerors) owns everything is going to be dangerous. But I was welcomed into people's homes (some of which had dirt floors), and shown more hospitality than I would expect to encounter in my own society. However, I didn't try riding a hundred-thousand-dollar tour bus through the barrio...I can see how that might provoke an incident of some kind...

Well, one of my sons is married to an Hispanic (she's part of the other 98 per cent but left with her Masters degree). She's Mexican, not Spanish. Her father was a welder, not exactly upper echelon.
She still has family there but no longer feels safe in making visits. They did for many years, but no more.
