21 or 24 frets
I am new to the forum, I have been lurking for quite a while and am finally ready to buy a Rick. My question is does Rick currently or have they in the past made a guitar in the 300 series with 21 frets? I know that the 620 and some of the vintage reissues come with 21 frets, yet their "main" guitars do not. Is their an advantage to having 24 frets? I have played primarily Telecasters and PRS, yet am looking for that "British" sound (Kinks, Who, Jam, Smiths, Oasis, etc...) which is my reason for a Rick. Great site with great info.

I don't like the 24 fret necks. IMHO the tone is different because of the placement of the neck pickup is moved to allow for the 3 extra frets. Also on a three pickup model it allows less space between the pickups. If you plan to mainly use the bridge pickup and only want 2 pickups then these may not issues for you.
Have you looked at the 350 models. Check them out. They may be a guitar you would be interested.
The current production 330-360 models all have 24 fret necks.

The placement of the neck pickup can make a real difference.
I bought an old used T*l*c*st*r that came with a humbucker rammed right up against the neck, the poles under what would have been the 24th fret. Sounded great, looked ugly. So I did some routing to place the poles in line with the standard Tele neck PU, so it would look like most HB Teles that you see. Looked great, sounded ugly!
But having said that, I like the sound of my 330's neck pickup - that's what I use most of the time. Maybe it would sound better moved up further, but I don't know. Never played a vintage 330!
