This is my current rig.
It's changed a lot recently but I can see myself sticking with this combintion for a little while.

Re: Your studio/stage setup?
The stereo out of my bass goes to a splitter.
Neck pickup goes to a Diamond Bass Compressor then to the 1st input of a Markbass Little Mark Tube.
Bridge pickup goes to a Diamond Bass Compressor, T-Rex Sweeper, Diamond Fuzzface, Electro Harmonix POG2, Boss SYB-5, then to the 2nd input of the Markbass Little Mark Tube.
Using Ashdown ABM 2x10 and 1x15 cabs.

Here is my squalid little music area:

You can see Cakewalk Sonar 8.1 on the computer screen and a Kodak Zi6 I have set up in order to make quick video notes of music parts I wish to remember.

A Janglebox and a Janglebox2
Rob, can you explain your typical m.o. ? Are you always running with a little Compression on (say with the standard JB) and then using the Treble Boost or JangleBoost circuit on the JB2 for solos and riffs
With two Compressors, are you having to use the Cut more on the AC-30 to edge off the natural chime on the Vox ? What kind of AC 30 settings do you typically use with the Double Down JBs ?
Any recordings or sound tests you can post for us to hear the two Jangleboxes in tandem ?

One can never have too much jangle!8mileshigher wrote:A Janglebox and a Janglebox2![]()

I almost exclusively just play my Ric 6 string guitars on stage nowadays.8mileshigher wrote:Mateybob wrote:This is my current rig.

I use compression for 90% of the time when we're playing live. The only time I don't use it is when I'm playing with the VOX "Over the top" overdrive engaged.
I use the Janglebox 1 & 2 independant of each other, I find the sounds to be very different.
The JB 1 seems to have more presence on the softer (less gain) settings, so it's seems better suited for strumming rhythms.
The JB 2 with jangleboost on kicks arse, so it's perfect for jangly rhythm playing and riffs.
I have set the JB 2 settings so that without the jangleboost on, I get a softer and quieter tone, which works perfectly for rhythm playing on tracks that I would otherwise use an acoustic guitar.
I have tried the 2 JB's in tandem but have found no real benefit in tone with the 6 string. If anything it makes the tone too brittle for my liking, and you loose most of the bottom end. Though you can get some interesting tones with a 12 string and both Jangleboxes engaged.
I'll record some clips with the 2 engaged later this week and post the links on here.
I'm currently using a modern AC30 CC2 with the regular wharfdale speakers.
The rear panel is set to 'Hot' and 'Vintage' settings, this makes a massive difference to the tone.
I plug into the 'top boost' jack, and have the switches in the 'classic' settings.
This is the knob configuration I use on the top panel.
I never have to return to the amp during a gig with these settings and my pedal board.
I can quite happily get everything from soft acoustic tones, through Jangle, to screaming overdrive, at the stomp of a switch.

Re: Your studio/stage setup?
Many thanks, Rob, for the detailed explanation.
Very interesting your comment that the JB2 sounds so different from the original Janglebox. I had assumed both were the same - except for that JangleBoost switch.
Appreciate you posting the AC-30 CC2 settings picture and details. Wondering if you are using the standard Vox supplied tubes (valves) or if you have replaced them, since you are using that rear panel "hot" setting (which runs about 33 Watts according to the CC2 Manual) and the AC-30's reputation for poor ventilation contributing to valve fatigue, over-heating and the EL84 power tubes are known to run hot, as it is.
Am looking forward to hearing your Jangleboxes comparative sound clips ....

Re: Your studio/stage setup?
The differences in sound between my 2 Jangleboxes could be purely down to their positioning, and the other pedals on my pedal board. I'm a complete non-techie, so I wouldn't know if the innards of the 2 boxes are basically the same or not.8mileshigher wrote:Many thanks, Rob, for the detailed explanation.![]()

Though the JB2 does have independant bass and treble knobs, which allow you to fine tune your tone far beyond the controls on the original JB.
I've had this particular AC30CC2 for about 4 years, and even though I've also got a 60's AC30 top boost, this is the one that I keep coming back to.
On this CC2 I've only ever had to change the rectifier valve, the rest are stock. I was concerned about running this one on the 'Hot' setting, but switch it to warm and the tone is dull, flat and farty, so 'Hot' it has to be. And without wanting to tempt fate, I've not had any trouble with it so far, and it's great for keeping your hands warm in the winter!
I also tried out the blue Celestion speakers, but for the cost, I couldn't see what all the fuss is about, so I changed back to the Wharfdales and sold the blues.
I do have another, slightly older CC2, which has had a complete tube change from stock to teslas. But to be honest I actually prefer the tone of my newer CC2 with the stock tubes, so I just use the older one as a back up, and my 60's one I use for recording/rehearsals so I don't need to lug it about.

Re: Your studio/stage setup?
The big issue we hear from prospective JB2 customers is that they want to be able to capture the JangleBox sound dead-on. The JB2 can be adjusted to absolutely sound like a JangleBox, but with the added EQ and JangleBoost features, you also get a lot more tonal flexibility.8mileshigher wrote:Many thanks, Rob, for the detailed explanation.![]()

Gee ---- stock factory tubes and Wharfies; selling off the Celestion Blues
Mateybob, You've got me inspired to fool around this weekend with my back-panel Hot and Warm settings and the top panel knobs on my AC30 CC2 (mine also has Wharfies
But, (sigh) I've only got one

Re: Your studio/stage setup?
My AC 30s have Alnicos, but I've played through Wharfies and Greenbacks in AC 30s and been quite happy with the sound.
After last weekend's gig out in the desert, I should probably add "dust" and "dirtclods" to the list as part of my stage setup...

Firstly, and I'll say this to everyone, don't even think about getting a Janglebox 2..... just buy one now!8mileshigher wrote:....Great for keeping your hands warm in the winter!Mateybob wrote:

... You're bucking the tide from all the usual "spin" on the several Vox forums, where all these advocates are promoting this or that "mod", insisting that one needs NOS Mullards or military surplus gear to replace stock Pre Amp tubes, wanting more clean headroom and relegating the Wharfies to second-class citizenship

Mateybob, You've got me inspired to fool around this weekend with my back-panel Hot and Warm settings and the top panel knobs on my AC30 CC2 (mine also has Wharfies) and tinker some more with my Ric and Vox tone !
But I've only got oneregular Janglebox
to play with !!!
Even if you have the original, if you are serious about tone, and play Rickenbacker guitars, you need the Janglebox 2.
Tone is such a subjective thing, and with my poor hearing/tinnitus I'm sure that what I'm hearing coming out of my amp is very different to what most other people are hearing.
But without exception, whenever we play live, the most repeated comment from people watching is, "Wow! how do you get that amazing sound?"
When the tubes do eventually pop in my CC2, I'll probably have a go with the JJ ones. I know that Tesla and JJ split a while back and word is that the JJ's are better, but the proof will be in the pudding as they say.
I'm really glad I've inspired you to tinker with your rig (Oooh errr missus!)
With a Ric, an AC30 and a Janglebox, I'm sure it won't take long to find something amazing.
I also have to say that the Reverb on the AC30 CC2 sounds absolutely amazing with my settings and a Ric 6 string.
Get your amp hot
Let me know how you get on.

Mateybob, you'll probably hear my neighbors yelling, all the way across the pond, if I follow all your suggestions on cranking everything up to the max !!!Mateybob wrote:
Get your amp hot, whack both the janglebox knobs up to around 2 o'clock, whack the Reverb Tone and Mix knobs up to max on your AC30 but keep the drive switch on low, and wow, surf along on a reverb ride that does big poo poos over anything coming from the Fender side of town.
