Here are a couple pics of the modded tailpiece assembly and the enlarged and rewired control cavity.

Very very cool bass! Those are some mighty bold mods you've done. I'm glad you're blown away by the end result. Have fun!

Actually, I'm seriously considering doing just that to my 4004Cii MG. Possibly even doing a 5 string conversion. I'm just not sure how to deal with the headstock/tuners with MG, especially if I wanted to have the extra tuner on the bass side...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

If you have a transparent finish, the only way to put 3 on top is to cut the headstock wing off, probably both so the work matches, and rebuild the headstock to your preferred configuration. I've seen people put an extra tuner out on the cresting wave, but if you don't like my method of putting three on the bottom, you probably won't like that either.

Yeah, that's the only way I think it would look "right". I liked your previous method, but that just wouldn't cut it on a transparent finish. Needless to say, that's the reason nothing has been done on it... yet...

The more I look at Dane's mods, the more nervous my Cii's get!

Joey, did you add the 3rd pickup to your 4004's, or is that Photoshop? Looks good! What to you think of the sound and how'd you wire these? Oh, wait a minute, is that a new fretless fingerboard on you 4004JG too? Your basses should be nervous!

Except for the pickguard that you made for the JG, it's all just Photoshop for now, Dane. I doubt I'd ever mod the BBR Cii. However, I'm hoping that before the end of the summer, the FG will have that mod. If I did make the JG fretless, I think I'd have an ebony fingerboard put on. I'd have the fingerboard face dots also to keep the Rickenfactor.

Cool idea with those extra pickups Joey, and Dane, I like the guard you did for his JG. Do you still make those?
