Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage movie

Post by rickaddict »

I went and saw this last night, and I've gotta give it two thumbs up!

I was never much of a Rush fan growing up. I knew who they were and appreciated their musicianship, but I never bought any albums and was not a rabid fan as were some of my musician friends in high school. One time a friend had an extra ticket, so I saw them live in 1982 or so, but beyond that I never really had much interest.

Any who...my point is, you don't need to be a Rush fan to appreciate this film. It's really a nicely made historical piece. It's funny, it's well-paced, and and it's an excellent look back on the music scene of the 70's as well as the unique experiences of these nerdy young friends/musicians whose band made it big.

The use/photos/footage of at least 5 of Geddy Lee's Rickenbacker instruments helped to make the film interesting for me, and...heck the 70's hairstyles and clothing alone made it worth the price of admission!

Go see it!

If it comes anywhere near here, I'll go see it. But I'm betting I'll have to wait for it to be on DVD...

The DVD will be released on June 29th. Pre-Sale purchases are already available.

I saw the movie Thursday Night with my Drummer. We drove up to Portland, the only Oregon city showing it.
It was fantastic. The place was packed. The line to get in wrapped around the block!
It was like going to a concert.
It's so cool being around that many other fans.

I really want to go back up again tonight to see it again!

Saw "Beyond The Lighted Stage" last Thursday night. Only one showing in Hurst, TX. My song and wife went too and it was very very good! Great insight into the personalities of the band members and the evolution of their music. I will get the DVD for sure, but seeing it on the big screen was just so cool! There was a tremendous vibe in the theater with all the die-hard Rush fans as well. Highly recommended!

My salesman and I were going try to see it last Thursday in NYC, but we couldn't make it happen. I'm sure he will buy it as he's a rabid fan, and then I'll get to check it out after he's watched it a couple 100 times.
