How obvious a faker do you want???

Post by espidog »

I'm used to seeing 4003 fakes on UK eBay - there are plenty of them, but at least they're being sold as copies. This takes the biscuit, though:

ebay listing

The seller is describing it as a brand new, genuine Rick 4003 - and charging what would be a bargain price if it were - but one look at the pictures shows the ugly truth. I'm sure my keen-eyed brethren will pick up on many details, but the most obvious horrors are the cack-handed spray-job, the lumpy, uneven binding and that bridge, which isn't even the right shape!

I've reported the listing to eBay, but without much hope that they'll do anything.

Gee, I wonder why RIC won't sell a TRC to anyone who wants to pay 20 bucks for one?!

Can anyone save these photos and post them on the thread for future reference? I am not able to for some reason.

Thanks, CJ!

That one is a little too close for comfort.

Upon further inspection, that headstock shot is from a different bass...A real 4003.

This is bad. This is very bad!

The close-up body pics look like something created in Photoshop and more fake than the guitar.

One gets the sense that the winner of the bass wont be getting much of a package.

So Raykit did those pics for what reason...? I have to wonder if there is a connection with the sale or not.

My guess - the connection is someone took the pics off that site to put up a fake auction. A faker faker auction.....

Why am I not surprised JH knew about this rendering work?

RayKit - Ray Kit Shum appears to be a Multimedia Graphics Designer. The Rickenbacker 4003 "art" looks to be just a part of his portfolio showing the sort of work he's capable of doing...
