Re: Post photos?
Very nice! I've always loved the look of maple with black...
Along with the 500kB limitation, there's a max size based on pixels too, 1200x1200 I think, but that may have changed too...

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

My 4000 is a 1967. Was surprised to find cavity for extra pick up under the hood. I have a shot where I can see 4000 in pencil in the puka for the pots. That is, the hole routed out for the pots. (Puka: Hawaiian for hole, as in puka shells, yeah?)
I wonder if all 4000's were routed for 2 pick ups?
As for posting pics, I created an upload file and then prepped each shot for email where I could adjust them to under 500kb, then dragged each shot into the upload file. Just in case that's helpful to anyone... I don't know how to get rid of the white border that appears around photos in the post. Mahalo for baring with the learning curve. OK, gotta feed Mohawk, the horse. He misses his buddy who just left for boot camp two days ago.

From what I've read, some 4000s were routed for the extra pickup, some weren't. I think the neck pickup route started when the 4001 came into existence.
As for the white border, I think that always happens with uploaded pics. The [img] stuff with pictures hosted elsewhere doesn't seem to to the borders...

From what I've read, some 4000s were factory-routed for a neck pickup and some were not. It appears that yours was factory-routed (as evidenced by the FG remnants on the upper tier of the rout) and routed deeper at another time for installation of the Bartolini.
Nice bass though, despite what it's seen through the years.

Re: Post photos?
Don't worry about the white border and the dashed lines around the photos as they appear beneath your text. The viewer can click on the picture and the full size photo appears. At least it does for me and my Mac. I'm constantly attaching shots, and after reducing in Photoshop Elements, I use the "Upload attachment" tool to attach. I think it will take only four at a time, though, and if you try to upload them in one message, they appear in reverse order to how you attached them (last on top, etc.).
Nice 4000!
Nice 4000!

After you upload the photos, click where it says place in line. If you have more than one photo. Click "Place inline". f you have a preference for their order, click "Place inline" on the one you want on top first and so on, or you can click place in line after every time you upload a picture.Ric Chick wrote:I don't know how to get rid of the white border that appears around photos in the post.
The border is gone now.

Thanks, Joey. I knew about the "place in line" but didn't want to steepen the learning curve too quickly.

Re: Post photos?
I must chime in my 2 cents worth, Very nice Ric Shelly!!!!
I am curious as to why the Bartolini's instead of the standard Ric replacement pups? Just curious that is all. I might add all the black looks very nice
I have a Jazz bass I am thinking of changing to Bartolini's granted the Fender pup's are still in good condition but I have always wanted to try Bartolini's.
Nice you have photos of you in that era, I personally don't remember much from that time zone.
I never played new wave though. Just not my gig
Thanks again for sharing

Neat bass.
Re: Post photos?
Shelly, the photo of you playing is really cool!
Re: Post photos?
Shelly, welcome to the forum. Nice recovery on the bass - sweet looking! Are you still playing?
Re: Post photos?
WOW! Thanx for all your cool remarks. The Bass was modded mid 80's. The luthier is Rob Lee http://robertleeguitars.com/ I've known Robbie since Nursery School and we were sweethearts in Kindergarden! I wanted it sprayed clear, to add neck pup (I like that abbreviation). Rob chose Bartolinis, Stars bridge (he used to repair at Star's Guitars in SF) and went ahead and replaced tuners, which was a surprise when I went to pick it up. That brass bridge sure added to the great maple-neck-thru-body sustain.
I'm not playing much bass these days- especially since I broke my arm at the wrist on May 1st... which is why I'm considering seling my Ric
Sometimes I sit in on bongos w/ my friends' instrumental surf band, Soundwave, but only at rehearsals and parties, so far. I play guitar and ukulele too.
The '79 photo was with "Alias" a 5 piece all-girl band. We had a different vocalist for each gig, different songs and a different alias for each gig. We did both covers and originals as several of us wrote. It was my first band and a lot of fun. Ended tragically when band leader, Charlotte "Chet" Ackerley (She had something published in Guitar Player in the mid 70's) died mountain climbing. I was quite devastated... and p'ed off at the Creator...
Next I was invited to join "VS." San Francisco's first all women punk band. Nice angry music that allowed me to work out my grief! Band leader Olga DaVolga had been bass player and kept going thru vocalists like guitar strings so she decided to front VS. and have me play bass. I couldn't get those machine gun licks down until she threw me (literally) her 3/4 scale Fender bass, so Ric missed out on playing those great Bay Area Punk Clubs: The Mabuhay; Berkeley Square and The Palms Cafe. We actually played some rather speed metal punk and Olga was wearing bustiers on stage before Madonna, I believe. After a short stint with them I slipped a disc in my low back. Too much pogo-ing in combat boots. Sorry I don't think I have any photos from that band...
Anyway I'm concerned that this is TMI for this bass forum,
but thanx for all the input and questions. I did figure out the inline thing on my own after some trial & error.
I hope this photo discussion/info will help other new members upload also. Aloha, Shelly

It's never TMI when it's real stories of being out there and making it happen; especially from what is now "back in the day!" You know, if you really don't need to sell it, why not hang onto it? That bug may come again...
