Zappa plays Zappa

Post by marc61 »

Great show. I would describe it as a Frank Zappa tribute act put together by the man most qualified to do so.

Dweezil handed this and a pick to my son after the show

What kind of guitar(s) did he play? I seem to remember that he endorsed Hagstrom recently, and was featured in an ad with an image of his father holding a vintage Hagstrom.

I watched the video (DVD) last year with an appearance by Steve Vai.

I don't think any of the guitars were Hagstrom. He played an SG that people said was his father's, he had a Strat with his dad's pic on it. I think there was Paul Reed Smith...missing one...darn

For those of us who couldn't be there, a "Zappa Plays Zappa" DVD is available; worth seeking out. I don't own it, but watched it at my brother's place a few months back.

One of the two most amazing DVDs I've seen in the last year or so. There's a "battle/showdown" between Dweezil and Steve Vai that's guaranteed to knock your socks off. Fabulous instrumental technique. Lots of older Zappa stuff played in its entirety--"Peaches en Regalia" and a good portion of "Overnight Sensation", too.

I've seen each tour so far, each with different musicians and different songs. One of my favorite shows. Since Frank is not around anymore, sadly, I love that Dweezil is dedicating himself to keeping his Dad's music alive. Of course, he's probably doing better with this than his solo work, but it is a win-win.
