US V UK 4
US V UK 4
Clearly be a outright winner here but I may be surprised as I was with previous.
The Searchers had a number 2 with this in UK but in US an American band had the hit albeit only making number 49 on Billboard.

The Cryan' Shames.
PS: hate that song. It's way too bad for the Searchers.

I prefer the Searchers' version mainly due to production and sound - I don't like the song that much in any version, it's like 1960s Powerpuff Girls!

Not the best song but The Searchers version is tops here. The Cryan' Shames, out of Chicago, would go on to make some very nice records, but the boys from Liverpool take the cake on this one.
Re: US V UK 4
Have to go with the Cryan Shames here (even though they sound too Four Lads at the start). More attention is given the guitar solo and, hey!, at 1:27 you can spot a Rickenbacker.
It's a close match though. The Searchers version is the definitive version in the minds of nearly everyone and you can't deny the cool rhythm guitar.
Say, what the model of bass used in the Searchers clip?

I definitely prefer the Searchers version but If it were a tie I'd have still voted for them out of admiration for anyone playing a bass while holding it that high. If I tried that, my right arm would be dead weight within five minutes.

Somebody else recorded Sugar and Spice in the 60's???? Who knew?
Here on my side of the US Map (East coast) all we heard were the Searchers singing Sugar & Spice! And as silly as my Chris thought the song, I enjoy and prefer the Searchers version! Obviously, never heard of that other band -- either spelling of names. And I listened to the transister every waking minute I wasn't in school!
For me, it's always going to be the Searchers version of everything. I'm a rabid Fanatic of the 60's Searchers -- all five of them! Chris, John, Mike, Tony & Frank!
